Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking an IT/Industrial Automation Systems Administrator at the Chino copper mine in New Mexico. You will support industrial automation servers, network infrastructure, and IT hardware while coordinating with Process Control staff to ensure alignment with corporate standards.

The role requires a mix of technical expertise in PLCs/HMIs/DCS, networking, backups, and patching, plus strong communication and customer service skills.

Qualifications

• Must have customer service orientation with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Degrees or experience as listed: multiple pathway to qualify (degree or combined experience).
• Understanding of LAN administration, server hardware/virtualization, backups, patching, and industrial automation systems such as PLCs/HMIs/DCS.

Responsibilities

• Administer and support industrial automation and control systems servers, workstations and IT hardware.
• Manage backups, anti-virus updates, and OS patching.
• Maintain industrial network infrastructure including Ethernet, fiber, and UTP.
• Coordinate with Process Control personnel for system maintenance.
• Develop and implement procedures; plan upgrades to software/hardware.
• Collaborate with Process Control and Plant Engineering to ensure IT alignment with standards.
• Support Safety and Environmental programs and MIS policy compliance.
• Perform other duties as required.

Where You Will Work

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

What You Will Do

• Administration and support of industrial automation and control systems servers, workstations and associated IT hardware including process control Active Directory domain and security services.
• Administration and support of daily systems backups, anti-virus updates and operating system patching.
• Administration and support of industrial automation and control systems network infrastructure to include Ethernet communications and associated network hardware, fiber optic and UTP infrastructure.
• Interface and coordinate system maintenance and support activities with Process Control personnel.
• Plan, develop and implement procedures and facilitate upgrades to system software and hardware.
• Engage with Process Control and Plant Engineering staff on industrial automation and control system modifications, enhancements and expansions to ensure IT infrastructure alignment with corporate standards.
• Actively participate and promote Safety and Environmental programs, ensure MIS policy compliance and site operational goals
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or an Engineering discipline,OR
• Associates degree in Information Systems or related disciplineandfour (4) years of experience in any combination of Industrial Automation and Control Systems, IT LAN Administration, Software Troubleshooting, Computer Systems Maintenance and Application Support,OR
• High School diploma or GEDandsix (6) years of experience in any combination of Industrial Automation and Control Systems, IT LAN Administration, Software Troubleshooting, Computer Systems Maintenance and Application Support.
• Basic understanding of LAN Administration functions to include server hardware/virtualization, backups, patching, and anti-virus or industrial automation systems to include PLCs, HMIs or DCS.
• Must be customer service-oriented and possess good organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

• IT LAN Administration or Industrial Automation and Control System experience
• LAN Administration experience (Microsoft Windows, Backup Exec or other backup software, OS patching, etc.)
• Industrial Automation and Control Systems experience (DCS, PLC, SCADA, RTU, etc.)
• Process Data Historian experience (AspenTech Infoplus.21, OSISoft PI, etc.)
• Cisco networking experience.

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $75,000-$104,000 .This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
