Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a Process Automation Technician Helper to support the Chino operations. You will troubleshoot and maintain industrial control systems under supervision, following safety and environmental programs and contributing to cybersecurity awareness.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Process Automation Engineering, reading engineering docs, and identifying process-improvement opportunities through instrumentation and automation while supporting plant performance.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated an affinity or aptitude in electrical, instrumentation, or Process Automation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Completion of required academic and practical competencies.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and maintain site Industrial Control Systems under Process Automation supervision.
• Follow Freeport-McMoRan safety and environmental programs and practices while communicating safety implications related to Process Automation and adhering to Industrial Control System cybersecurity practices.
• Read engineering documentation and verify that the quality of project work meets site Process Automation standards.
• Understand ICS hardware and software installations and participate in identifying opportunities to implement process improvement and optimization through automation while improving Operator and Operations effectiveness.
• Troubleshoot plant issues under direct supervision and assist in integrating specialized analytical and advanced instrumentation solutions.

Where You Will Work

Chino is an open-pit copper mining complex located 15 miles from the historic mining community of Silver City in southwestern New Mexico. The historic Chino mine was among the world's first low-grade, open-pit copper mines. Today, the operation consists of a 36,000-metric-ton-per-day concentrator that produces copper and a 150-million-pound-per-year solvent extraction/electrowinning plant that produces copper cathode from solution generated by run-of-mine leaching.

What You Will Do

Under direct Process Automation supervision, you troubleshoot and maintain site Industrial Control Systems. You follow Freeport-McMoRan safety and environmental programs and practices while communicating safety implications related to Process Automation and adhering to Industrial Control System cybersecurity practices and policies. You collaborate with others on Process Automation Engineering topics and projects and locate and read engineering documentation and designs, understanding the importance of verifying that the quality of project work meets site Process Automation standards. You understand IC S hardware and software installations and participate in identifying opportunities to implement process improvement and optimization through automation while improving Operator and Operations effectiveness. You also understand the Process Control Network and its relationship to plant performance, cybersecurity, and plant historian systems, participating in troubleshooting plant issues under direct supervision. You take part in identifying and troubleshooting specialized analytical and advanced instrumentation solutions to be integrated into the site IC Sunder direct supervision and perform other duties as requested.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Demonstrated an affinity or aptitude in electrical, instrumentation, or Process Automation maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Completion of required academic and practical competencies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), HMI, SCADA, or DCS training/certification
• Experience with plant process historians or similar systems
• Familiarity with IC S/PCN architecture, communication, and security
• Understanding of mining and mineral processing systems
• Training in NFPA 70, NEC, or Electrical Journeyman

What We Offer You

The estimated pay range for this role is currently $23.00 - $31.00/hour. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
