Job summary

Innovo Global Talent is seeking a Controls Engineer in Texas for full-time, hybrid roles across multiple project sites. You will lead control system design, development, testing, and commissioning, interfacing PLC, SCADA, and field devices with hands-on ownership of performance.

Responsibilities include configuring PLC software (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000), leading commissioning, and producing technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Technical qualification in automation, electronics, controls engineering, or related field.
  • Must be authorised to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to travel across Texas and occasionally out of state depending on project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and optimisation of control systems for automated material handling, BHS, or industrial automation projects.
  • Configure and tailor PLC software using Siemens TIA Portal (AWL/SCL) and/or Rockwell Studio 5000 (ControlLogix/GuardLogix).
  • Manage software suppliers and ensure deliverables meet functional requirements and project timelines.
  • Prepare automation environments for FAT with support from emulation teams (e.g., Emulate3D).
  • Drive commissioning, troubleshooting, and system validation on customer sites across Texas.
  • Oversee integration of hardware and software throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Diagnose and resolve industrial network issues (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Profibus).
  • Produce and maintain documentation including functional specs, test procedures, commissioning reports, and interface definitions.
  • Coordinate snag lists and ensure timely resolution of commissioning issues.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure cohesive system performance.
  • Identify opportunities for standardisation, optimisation, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and technical support to internal teams and customers.

Work Environment: Hybrid office/site-based

Position Summary

The Controls Engineer plays a critical role across the full automation project lifecycle. You will configure, develop, and optimise control system software, lead commissioning activities, and ensure seamless integration across PLC, SCADA, networks, and field devices. This role suits someone who thrives in fast‑paced automation environments and enjoys hands‑on ownership of system performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, testing, and optimisation of control systems for automated material handling, BHS, or industrial automation projects.

Technical Requirements
  • Strong experience in PLC programming, integration, and debugging (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000).
  • Solid understanding of control system architecture and hardware/software integration.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools: TIA Portal Diagnostic Suite, RSLinx/FactoryTalk Linx, ProfiTrace, Wireshark, NetAnalyzer.
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI systems (WinCC Flexible preferred).
  • Knowledge of machine safety systems and safety PLCs is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with industrial networks and communication protocols.
