John Galt Staffing is seeking an Automation Technician for a client in the Aerospace, Defense and Environmental Remediation arena, focused on large-scale water treatment and environmental monitoring.

The role centers on monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing filtration and pumping systems, bridging heavy industrial equipment with SCADA data to ensure electrical safety across facilities nationwide.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years in automation, instrumentation, or electrical maintenance.
  • 3–5 years troubleshooting PLC electrical safety.
  • Experience in municipal/industrial water treatment is a plus.
  • Experience in environmental/water/wastewater space is a plus.
  • Ability to modify PLC programs (Rockwell, Allen-Bradley).
  • Prefer automations tech/industrial electrician/instrumentation tech near water facilities.
  • BS in Environmental/Chemical Eng or Environmental Science preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and audit PLC logic to ensure safe filtration and effluent standards.
  • Manage SCADA historic data to log flow, turbidity, DO, and pH for audits.
  • Configure/test HMI/SCADA alarm thresholds for failures or overflows.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize sequencing for clarifiers, basins, digesters, UV systems.
  • Maintain reliable communication links between plant and remote stations.

Job description

Our client is an Aerospace, Defense, and Environmental Remediation organization that specializes in large scale propulsion initiatives and the environmental liabilities associated with projects and products in this space. The current need will be part of a group that primarily works on various water/wastewater treatment facilities as well as large-scale environmental remediation, containment, and long-term monitoring of soil and groundwater contamination.

The role will center around the continuous monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of filtration systems and pumping systems in the treatment facilities themselves. This individual will also help bridge the gap between heavy industrial equipment and SCADA data systems to ensure electrical safety throughout the various water/waste water treatment facilities that are spread out throughout the entirety of the base.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and audit PLC logic governing safety levels and electrical safety to guarantee effluent water meets legal safety standards.
  • Manage SCADA historical data systems to accurately log and report daily flow rates, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and pH levels for state agency audits.
  • Assist with configuring and testing HMI/SCADA alarm thresholds to immediately alert operations of equipment failures, containment leaks, or high-level overflows.
  • Assist with troubleshoot and optimize automated sequencing for primary clarifiers, aeration basins, anaerobic digesters, and UV disinfection systems.
  • Maintain reliable communication links (such as radio telemetry, cellular, or fiber) between the main treatment plant and remote lift stations or storage tanks.

Requirements:

  • 3 to 5 years of automation, instrumentation, or electrical maintenance experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of PLC troubleshooting electrical safety within the PLC’s.
  • Experience within a municipal or industrial water treatment plant would be a huge plus.
  • Experience within the environmental/water/wastewater space would be a huge plus.
  • The ability to go online, troubleshoot, and modify PLC programs (Rockwell, Allen Bradley)
  • Experience as an automation tech, industrial electrician, or instrumentation technician working around water/wastewater treatment facilities is strongly preferred.
  • BS in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Environmental Science is also preferred.
