Job summary

SOLV Energy in San Diego is seeking a Control Center Operator - Level 2 to independently manage routine and moderately complex OCC work from recognition through closure.

The role applies procedures, coordinates across teams, and serves as a technical resource for Level I Operators while ensuring safety, compliance, and continuity in a 24/7 office-based setting. This is a full-time on-site position in San Diego, CA.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of control center/renewable energy experience or equivalent capability.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA/control behavior and telemetry.
  • Ability to analyze conditions, prioritize, and communicate complex technical information.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Level I responsibilities independently for assigned qualifications and focus roles.
  • Own events, investigations, planned work, directives, alarms, and coordination through completion.
  • Coordinate with technicians, utilities, clients, project teams, SCADA, IT, HV, Compliance.
  • Maintain OpLog workflows and track event progression.
  • Support Level I Operators and explain tools and procedures to connect actions.

Job Description Summary:

The Control Center Operator - Level 2 will independently manage routine and moderately complex OCC work from recognition through closure. The Level II Operator applies procedures, tools, facts, and judgment to common operational variation; maintains workflow continuity; coordinates across teams; and serves as a technical resource and routine-work support for Level I Operators.

This role is based full-time in our office in San Diego, CA. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Job Description:
Position Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Perform all Level I responsibilities consistently and independently for assigned qualifications and focus roles.
  • Own standard events, investigations, planned work, directives, alarms, requests, and coordination activities through completion, transfer, or documented escalation.
  • Distinguish and communicate ownership of conditions and events among teams.
  • Apply procedures to conditions, adapt to common variations, and use evidence from Fleetview, HMI/SCADA, OpLog, CMMS, Site Details, communications, and other approved resources to progress work.
  • Execute and validate generator, POI, inverter, tracker, outage, switching-support, and directive actions in accordance with approved controls and communication requirements.
  • Prioritize multiple routine or moderately complex items while protecting safety, compliance, contractual obligations, external commitments, and continuity.
  • Coordinate with technicians, utilities, clients, project teams, SCADA, IT, HV, Compliance, and other support groups.
  • Maintain OpLog workflows, track event progression, and coordinate with supporting roles when actions or documentation remain outstanding.
  • Support Level I Operators during routine work, explain how tools and procedures connect, model documentation and communication standards, and serve as an accessible technical resource.
  • Identify recurring information, procedure, training, alarm, tool, or ownership gaps and route feedback to the Supervisor, T&P, RC, or other responsible group.
  • Support planned work, new-site activities, testing, and periods of elevated volume as qualified.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of switching procedures and the safety aspects associated with substation device operations.
  • Understand how site conditions and operational actions affect generator performance and relevant operational metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal and external IT and SCADA teams to investigate and support resolution of connectivity or plant-control application issues.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of applicable NERC requirements, Interconnection Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, and other requirements relevant to assigned OCC responsibilities.
  • Maintain flexibility in shift assignments due to 24/7 operations
Objectives or Goals to Measure Performance:
  • Consistent safety, compliance, policy, and procedure adherence while independently executing assigned responsibilities.
  • Independent ownership and timely progression of standard work from recognition through closure.
  • Accurate prioritization, response validation, issue narratives, documentation, and handoffs.
  • Effective coordination across internal and external parties without loss of ownership or continuity.
  • Consistent application of technical and operational knowledge to independently manage common variations and recognize when escalation is appropriate.
  • Quality and usefulness of routine support provided to Level I Operators.
  • Contribution to safer, clearer, and more efficient OCC workflows, tools, and team practices.
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of relevant control center, renewable energy, utility, or comparable operational experience, or demonstrated equivalent capability.
  • Demonstrated successful performance of Level I responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of utility-scale renewable operations, medium- and high-voltage concepts, SCADA/control behavior, networking/telemetry, compliance concepts, and operational documentation as applicable to assigned work.
  • Ability to analyze conditions, prioritize independently, troubleshoot in real time, and communicate complex technical information clearly.
  • Strong organizational, customer service, interpersonal, and computer skills.
