Job description

Want to make a difference? Join an organization committed to sharing the hope of true transformation with those impacted by incarceration for nearly 50 years.

Prison Fellowship is the nation’s largest Christian nonprofit, equipping the Church to serve currently and formerly incarcerated people and their families, and to advocate for justice and human dignity. We encounter Jesus with those behind bars, breaking cycles of crime and praying for a revival of justice, mercy, and hope in our culture.

Prison Fellowship is committed to the highest standards of conduct, ethics, and Christian values, grounded in the Bible, as reflected in our Statement of Faith below.

What we are looking for:

A driven and mission-focused Contracts Attorney to play a pivotal role in creating, negotiating, reviewing, and executing contracts, ensuring they are legally sound and align with the organization's strategic goals while protecting Prison Fellowship’s interests and limiting liabilities. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of contract law, and excellent negotiation skills.

Expectations of this role:
  • Draft and review contracts including independent contractor agreements, purchase agreements, and other legal documents
  • Negotiate contract terms with internal clients, vendors, and other parties
  • Provide legal advice on contract interpretation and obligations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Identify and mitigate potential legal risks within contractual agreements
  • Create contract templates as needed
  • Research, write, and draft legal memoranda at the request of the General Counsel
  • Maintain organized records of contract documents
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary information for contract development
  • Conduct legal research to support contract negotiations and the Legal department
  • Resolve contract-related disputes or issues, including sending and responding to cease and desist letters to protect IP
Qualifications:
  • Maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ and support the ministry through prayer and actions
  • 3+ years' experience as a Contracts Attorney or in a related legal role, preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Juris Doctorate required
  • Active license to practice law in Virginia or the ability to obtain licensure within 6 months; license in Alabama preferred
  • Exceptional negotiation and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple contracts simultaneously
  • Advanced understanding of contract law and commercial terms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency in legal research and writing
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and Smartsheet; experience with Contract Logix preferred
  • This is a remote position
What we offer:

We support the total well-being of our employees with comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, retirement funding, flexible spending accounts, paid maternity and parental leave, and more. Our paid leave starts at 39 days after one year of employment. Part-time employees working at least 20 hours per week are eligible for some benefits on a pro-rated basis.
