Job summary

Shionogi Inc. in San Diego, CA is seeking a Research Associate IV / Scientist I contractor to contribute to the development and evaluation of new anti-infective agents.

You will work on experimental design, in vitro and in vivo studies, and data analysis to understand mechanisms of action and efficacy against pathogens. The role requires extensive experience in pharmacology and microbiology, vivarium exposure, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related field is preferred.
• The Research Associate IV level requires a minimum of five years relevant experience with a Bachelor’s degree, nine years of relevant experience without a degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• The Scientist I level requires a minimum of 12 years relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have vivarium experience utilizing rodent models; strong preference for prior experience with BSL-2 agents, especially bacterial pathogens.
• Experience in pharmacology, microbiology, or drug development, and designing and conducting pharmacology experiments in preclinical animal systems is preferred; good aseptic technique is required.

Responsibilities

• Design, conduct, and analyze experiments to assess activity of anti-infective compounds against pathogens.
• Utilize animal models to evaluate pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and therapeutic efficacy.
• Review literature to validate research strategies and identify trends in anti-infective pharmacology.
• Collaborate with microbiologists, bioanalytical chemists, medicinal chemists, and clinical researchers.
• Prepare reports and participate in scientific discussions with stakeholders.
• Ensure research activities comply with institutional and regulatory guidelines and maintain laboratory safety.
• Stay current with advancements through conferences and ongoing education.
• Undertake other projects as assigned.
