ROLE SUMMARY
Alliance Contracted Clinical Supervisor will provide clinical supervision to Alliance School Social Workers. The purpose of clinical supervision is to enhance the clinical social worker’s professional skills, knowledge, and attitudes in order to achieve competency in providing quality care. The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for providing direction, support, guidance, and clinical supervision to the Associate Social Worker (ASW) Supervisee, who applies social work theory and school-based interventions, standardized knowledge, skills, competency, and applicable ethical content in the school setting. The goals of supervision are to provide ongoing assessment of ASW Supervisee strengths and limitations, assure practice according to sound theory, ethical, legal, and administrative regulations, ensure that the ASW Supervisees’ clients [scholars] receive appropriate professional service, ensure the ASW Supervisees’ appropriate professional development, and to otherwise fulfill the regulatory requirements for supervision of the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Supervisor Responsibilities:
Although clinical supervision involves individualization based on the strengths and needs of the ASW Supervisee, in general the Clinical Supervisor will:
- Facilitate consultation on clinical interventions for school-based counseling sessions;
- Teach theoretical models such as cognitive behavior therapy, strengths-based, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy, and crisis intervention;
- Explore of evidence-based clinical interventions through collaborative discussion and modeling;
- Review of legal and ethical challenges within school-based settings and how to navigate;
- Discuss strategies to prevent work-related stress and develop healthy coping strategies;
- Provide best practices in school-based mental health including documentation, tier 1 school wide interventions, tier 2 group interventions, evidence based interventions to facilitate in counseling sessions, trauma-informed practices, Positive Behavior Intervention System, etc.;
- Review the ASW Supervisee’s documentation, including case notes, service log notes, treatment plans, intake assessments, and caseload logs. Provide support in quality assurance, ensuring accurate and timely documentation that meets the Alliance’s required three criteria and three standards of practice.;
- Maintain and review ASW supervisees weekly log of hours per CA BBS requirement.;
- Supervision will be provided in either group or triad, based on availability and need of ASW Supervisees. The Clinical Supervisor will review each supervisee prior clinical experience to determine if they should be placed in group or individual supervision. The Clinical Supervisor should be willing to discuss additional groups in triads/individual sessions as the need arises;
- Group Supervision - Consists of up to 7 Alliance participants in a weekly 2-hour session (1 total = 2 hours)
- Individual / Triadic Supervision - Consists of 1-2 Alliance participants in a weekly 1-hour session (5 total participants = 3 hours);
- Clinical supervision will be provided in face-to-face or video sessions at an agreed upon location or via google hangouts/zoom, 1 time per week with ASW Supervisees during school day hours
- Clinical Supervisor commits to meeting with ASW Supervisees weekly when students are in session, barring illness or other commitment.
- Assist the ASW Supervisees in developing clinical assessment and treatment planning skills;
- Review therapeutic techniques and explore treatment options;
- Review Special Education and school mental health laws and regulations;
- ASW Supervisees will present case material, receive feedback from the supervisor, mutually analyze material presented, and demonstrate skill;
- Address ethical dilemmas created by conflicting demands and roles;
- Identify practices posing danger to the health and/or welfare of the ASW Supervisee’s clients and/or the public (e.g. suicide ideation, risk and threat assessments, DCFS, community violence);
- Provide the associates with proper documentation of the commencement and termination of supervision;
- Assist in preparation for BBS Law & Ethics and Clinical Exams;
- Prepare documentation to support ASW Supervisee’s application for Licensure; and
- Prepare “Supervision Agreement” with each ASW Supervisee to document expectations for supervision, goals, evaluation plan within 60 days of commencing the supervisory relationship per CA BBS requirements.
Additional Contractor Responsibilities:
- The Clinical Supervisor will regularly meet with and report concerns to Manager of Psychological & Mental Health Services and/or Director of Psychological & Mental Health Services, related to the following:
- Discuss the clinical supervisor’s ongoing assessment of ASW Supervisee’s clinical expertise and competency, progress, strengths and limitations, areas of growth, support needed, participation in supervision, and documentation;
- Repeated missed or late attendance (3+);
- Ethical or legal violations on the part of ASW Supervisee or school;
- Accusations of harassment occurring within the school;
- Concerns regarding ASW Supervisee burnout if affecting performance.
- Provide ongoing assessment of ASW Supervisee strengths and limitations, assure practice according to sound theory, ethical, legal, and administrative regulations, ensure that the ASW Supervisees’ clients [scholars] receive appropriate professional service, ensure the ASW Supervisees’ appropriate professional development, and to otherwise fulfill the regulatory requirements for supervision of the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).
- Prepare and share all CA BBS required documentation, clinical supervision agendas, and support documents for ASW Supervisees with Manager of Psychological & Mental Health Services and/or Director of Psychological & Mental Health Services
- Prepare and share the “Supervision Agreement” with each ASW Supervisee and Manager of Psychological & Mental Health Services and/or Director of Psychological & Mental Health Services to document expectations for supervision, goals, evaluation plan within 60 days of commencing the supervisory relationship per CA BBS requirements.
- Assist in ensuring ASW Supervisees are in good standing with BBS and supporting them in meeting BBS renewal requirements by the due dates;

- Knowledge of applicable laws, codes, regulations, reporting requirements, policies, and procedures governing social work practice, as well as knowledge of principles and practices of social casework.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university
- A valid license as a clinical social worker (LCSW), for 2 years or more, issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Must remain in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for the duration of the waivers permitted by law.
- Experience working in a school setting for at least 4 years
- Experience providing clinical supervision to ASW supervisees for at least 2 years
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Google-based applications.
COMPENSATION
- Up to $120/hour depending on experience, for approximately 10 hours per week on a contract ending on June 30, 2026.
