Contract Surety Underwriter / Senior Underwriter

My client is a family‑owned specialty insurance company headquartered in Maryland. Licensed in all 50 states, they underwrite and service surety bonds, bail bonds, contractual liability insurance, and non‑admitted E&S businesses.

This role needs to be located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware or Maryland!

Base pay range

$100,000.00/yr - $150,000.00/yr

Position Summary

The Contract Surety Underwriter/Senior Underwriter position is responsible for servicing an existing client portfolio and developing new relationships within their designated territory. They are proficient in core aspects of the contract surety underwriting process and aware of local and statutory nuances. As a self‑starter, they execute daily duties within their underwriting authority, maintaining clear, organized documentation of their decision‑making. Submissions or requests that exceed their authority are escalated to the home office, along with recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for designated territory.
• Develop/maintain strong relationships with agents/brokers and oversee a book of Contract Surety business within defined territory. Meets production, marketing, and profitability goals as set by VP and assist in developing marketing plan.
• Perform analytical evaluations of financial statements on both a static and trend basis.
• Determine the present and historical financial position of the account and monitor financial position of risk through analysis of quarterly statements and work in progress data as appropriate.
