Job summary

ARCO is seeking a Contract Specialist to support a fast-paced legal team within a family of construction companies. This role focuses on reviewing and negotiating subcontracts and vendor agreements, guiding project managers on insurance and contractual obligations, and mitigating risks arising from contract changes.

The ideal candidate has a legal background and strong relationship-building and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in contract administration or related role.
• Legal background (JD or paralegal) with practical construction experience.
• Knowledge of contract law and procurement policies.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to build relationships with project managers, legal and finance teams, and vendors.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Review and negotiate subcontracts and other vendor agreements, ensuring alignment with internal policies and procedures.
• Advise Project Managers on insurance and contractual obligations.
• Maintain a fluent understanding of standard downstream forms.
• Collaborate with controllers and operations stakeholders.
• Suggest edits to downstream forms and implement changes under leadership.
• Interpret contract provisions to resolve subcontractor questions.
• Identify and analyze risks from contract changes.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

• Review and negotiate subcontracts and other vendor agreements, ensuring that contracts align with internal policies and procedures.

• Serve as a resource for Project Managers regarding insurance and contractual obligations in subcontractor and vendor agreements.

• Maintain a fluent understanding of standard downstream forms

• Serve as a collaborative partner with controllers and operations stakeholders

• Suggest edits to downstream forms and facilitate changes under the supervision of department leadership

• Interpret contract provisions to help resolve claims and questions submitted by subcontractors

• Identify potential risks that contract changes may pose to the company, and analyze and reduce identified risk

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

• 5+ years of relevant experience in a contract administrator, contract manager, contract specialist, or similar role

• A legal background: JD, paralegal certificate, or equivalent hands‑on construction contract experience with real depth

• Knowledge of legal requirements associated with contracts

• Strong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities

• Ability to build solid relationships with internal Project Managers, the Legal and Finance teams, and outside vendors

• Excellent customer service and verbal/written communication skills; must be extremely organized and detail oriented
