Job summary

Bombardier in Wichita is seeking a Senior Structural Design Engineer to lead structural design and integration for Learjet programs. The role requires extensive CATIA V5 experience, hands-on work with aircraft modifications, and collaboration with manufacturing and QA teams.

You will manage engineering tasks, support MRB resolutions, and guide a team of engineers to deliver compliant, high-quality structural installations for Special Missions programs. Strong communication is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Minimum 10 years of industry experience in structural design or related field.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required per ITAR.
• Experience in Special Missions or aftermarket modifications.
• Experience supporting manufacturing and aircraft modifications.
• Experience leading a team of engineers.
• 15,000 hours on CATIA V5; proficiency in CATIA V5 Workbenches.
• Familiarity with Siemens NX and Teamcenter PLM a plus.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; self-starter; MS Office proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Investigate design-build issues and develop structural solutions.
• Author temporary engineering to resolve build issues promptly.
• Dispositioning aircraft non-conformances with MRB instructions.
• Coordinate drawings with affected disciplines, QA, and operations.
• Design flight test engineering change requests and coordinate with owners.
• Define structural special instructions or restrictions.
• Design and release structural and systems installations for Special Missions.

What are your contributions to the team?

• Investigate design build issues and develop structural engineering and instrumentation installation solutions
• Author temporary engineering to resolve build issues in a timely manner
• Dispositioning aircraft non-conformances including rework instructions. (MRB)
• Perform aircraft and engineering drawing investigation and coordination with affected engineering disciplines, Quality Assurance and operations manufacturing representatives.
• Design Flight Test engineering change requests and coordinate with work package owners
• Author engineering to define structural special instructions or restrictions
• Design and Release Special Missions Engineering structural and systems installations

How to thrive in this role?

• You must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited University.
• You must have a minimum of 10 years industry experience
• Per US ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) Requirements, must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder).
• Experience in Special Missions or Aftermarket modifications is required.
• Experience supporting manufacturing and aircraft modifications is required.
• Experience of leading a team of engineers is required.
• You must have a minimum of 15,000 hours on CATIA V5.
• Proficient in CATIA V5 Workbenches: Assembly Design, Part Design (Boolean Operations), Aerospace Sheetmetal, Tubing Design, Kinematics and Electrical Harness Routing are a plus.
• Experience in Siemens NX is a plus.
• Experience in Teamcenter PLM is a plus.
• You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• You must be a highly motivated, self-starter.
• You must have proficiency with MS Office tools, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. All other computer systems and software are a plus.
• Any aircraft or manufacturing experience is a plus
• Experience in Special Missions or Aftermarket modifications is a plus
