Job summary

The Little Light House Central Kentucky, Inc. is seeking a contractor to mentor teens (14–18) and support the Arts Angle Newsroom.

You will help sharpen reporting and storytelling, develop media literacy, and coordinate curriculum alongside the Executive Director and volunteers. Responsibilities include designing engaging sessions, recruiting and training participants and volunteers, maintaining program data, and supporting community events.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate knowledge and experience in journalism, digital media publishing and with project management and social media.
  • Minimum one year work experience in youth-related direct service.
  • Able to attend most Arts Angle Newsroom sessions during fall term and spring term if extended.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Preferable reporting experience in any media.
  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Must have a desire to support young people and elevate their voices.

CONTRACTOR DESCRIPTION DETAILS: The contractor is an experienced and energetic person with passion for mentoring young people (14-18) as well as for journalism and the arts. They have the ability to help Arts Angle Newsroom participants sharpen their reporting and storytelling skills, develop media literacy and work with its young leaders. They understand and promote Arts Angle’s mission in the Arts Angle Newsroom’s intergenerational environment. They work with the Executive Director and volunteers on curriculum development and support the organization, management, implementation and evaluation of the newsroom program. They use discretion and personal judgment. The ideal candidate has experience in youth-serving organizations and/or education, is process-oriented, creative, detailed, compassionate, and adaptable.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Support
  • Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive program strategy and engaging curriculum for Arts Angle Newsroom programming, integrating participant feedback and goals throughout programming structure.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and retention of Arts Angle Newsroom participants.
  • Assist in coordinating program data collection and evaluation of the newsroom sessions, program recruitment and registration.
  • Assist in the recruitment, onboarding, and training of Arts Angle Newsroom Volunteers.
  • Assist in maintaining Arts Angle’s programmatic webpages.
Curriculum Development
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of Arts Angle Newsroom’s tailor-written journalism and media-making program curriculum with updates and modifications to meet emergent needs and evolve the curriculum based on observations and feedback.
  • Assist documenting and maintaining program processes and activities.
Mentorship & Coaching
  • Help maintain a safe, welcoming environment, and support participants’ holistic well-being within Arts Angle’s scope and capacity.
  • Assist in organizing and leading sessions to develop participants as leaders including their on-boarding, orientation, off-boarding and potential community event planning.
  • Co-lead sessions and support participants’ reporting, writing and editing processes while helping to create systems to encourage collaboration among peers, including editing.
  • Review individual participant progress; support participants in the development and completion of assigned projects and individual goals.
Community Connection
  • Assist with the management of regular communications with teens, parents, and other community stakeholders about Arts Angle Newsroom programming and activities.
  • Assist with connecting the Arts Angle Newsroom with journalism and arts industry professionals, including artists and scheduling for events.
REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & ETHOS
  • Bachelor’s degree required, or commensurate knowledge and experience in journalism, digital media publishing and with project management and social media.
  • Minimum one year work experience in youth-related direct service.
  • Able to attend most Arts Angle Newsroom sessions during the fall term (Mondays, 4 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays, noon to 2 p.m., Aug. 22 through Dec. 12, 2026). If the contract is extended, the contractor must be able to attend most spring-term sessions (Jan. 9 through May 15, 2027).
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Preferable reporting experience in any media.
  • Exceptional communication skills, verbal and written. Must be able to effectively communicate Arts Angle’s mission and with multiple stakeholder audiences of all ages.
  • Computer and web publishing skills.
  • Must have a desire to support young people and elevate their voices.
  • Must be comfortable working with a diverse group of teenagers and adults.
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress and Google Analytics are a plus.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
