Job summary

Baltimore Youth Arts is seeking a Fine Art Facilitator to support Apprentices in the Spring/Summer 2026 Apprentice Program. This role facilitates workshop-style classes and will engage youth in developing a collaborative coloring book and a commissioned public art installation with the National Aquarium.

The facilitator will guide youth in building creative and technical skills while supporting project development from concept through completion.

Qualifications

• Experience working with youth ages 14-21.
• Experience in community programming, education, or nonprofit settings.
• Experience in project management; ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks.
• Familiarity with lesson planning and teaching.
• Proficiency in Google Suite.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate fine art classes at the Baltimore Youth Arts studio (20 West North Avenue, Baltimore 21218).
• Track youth attendance and submit required paperwork to BYA Admin
• Develop flexible lesson plans that prioritize skill-building and project completion in collaboration with youth
• Create class outlines, lesson plans, and materials lists; share with BYA Admin by required deadlines
• Support participants in cleaning and organizing our workspace after each session
• Maintain inventory of all materials and supplies
• Edit and organize artwork files in collaboration with youth throughout the session, and during the final week before the showcase
• Upload all lesson plans to the shared drive
• Attend bi-weekly check-ins with direct supervisor
• Attend relevant professional development training as assigned by your supervisor and BYA Admin
• Collaborate with BYA staff to plan field trips and invite guest speakers for youth
• Uphold BYA's values in all interactions with youth, staff, and community partners
• Help maintain the BYA Community Studio so that youth have access to supplies and the workspace remains safe and organized
• Complete other duties as assigned and relevant to your position

Compensation $30/hour (no benefits)

Reports To: People and Projects Lead

PROGRAM DATES

Spring Session

April 4 - May 14, 2026

Tuesdays or Thursdays, 4:00 - 7:00 PM

Wednesdays, 4:00 - 7:00 PM

Public Event: May 8, 5:00 - 8:00 PM

Schedule: 4 hrs/2x per week

(2 hrs class + 2 hrs prep per day)

Summer Session

June 15 - August 7, 2026

Monday - Fridays: 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM

Thursdays: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM

Required: Bi-weekly 15-min check-ins with supervisor; weekly staff meeting on Thursdays (summer)

Position Description

Baltimore Youth Arts is seeking a Fine Art Facilitator to support Apprentices in the Spring/Summer 2026 Apprentice Program. This role facilitates workshop-style classes. BYA's project-based curriculum will engage youth in developing a collaborative coloring book and a commissioned public art installation exploring how young people envision Baltimore's Inner Harbor over the next century, in partnership with the National Aquarium.

The Fine Art Facilitator will guide youth in building creative and technical skills while supporting project development from concept through completion. Additional responsibilities include tracking attendance, documenting program activities, documenting youth art, curating youth artwork, and supporting the design and layout of the coloring book. This position will also ensure that all design deliverables meet specifications for the commissioned public art project.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate fine art classes at the Baltimore Youth Arts studio (20 West North Avenue, Baltimore 21218)
• Support life skills and career readiness for youth enrolled in BYA's Summer YouthWorks Programming
• Track youth attendance and submit required paperwork to BYA Admin

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with youth ages 14-21
• Experience and well-versed in one or more of the following artistic media:
  • Photography
  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Digital Design
• Experience in community programming, education, or nonprofit settings
• Experience in project management; ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks
• Familiarity with lesson planning and teaching
• Proficiency in Google Suite
• Belief in the creative potential and voices of young people
• Strong commitment to economic, social, and racial justice
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Strong organizational skills and time management
