Job summary

The University of New Hampshire Library invites applications for a three-year contract Processing Archivist, with renewal potential, to arrange, describe, and preserve archival collections for long-term accessibility. The role supports reference, instruction, acquisition, and appraisal activities and collaborates across the library to advance processing projects and governance.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program with a concentration in archives.
• 1 year of processing experience with large archival or manuscript collections.
• Familiarity with archival standards (DACS, EAD, MARC) and archival management systems.
• Knowledge of preservation principles for paper and photographic materials.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

• Survey, appraisal, and prioritize incoming and backlog archival collections.
• Arrange materials following archival principles (respect des fonds, original order, provenance).
• Rehouse materials for long-term preservation.
• Create finding aids, catalog records, and inventories using standards.
• Apply controlled vocabularies and authority records.
• Track and manage progress of processing projects.
• Support acquisition and appraisal activities as requested.
