Job summary

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is seeking a CONTRACT INSTRUCTOR - ART ENRICHMENT to lead a 4-week art enrichment module for homeschool students aged 6–14. The instructor will plan and teach hands-on sessions in drawing, painting, mixed media, or pottery with support from staff, ensuring accessibility and student engagement.

Qualifications

• Plan and teach a 4-week class series in visual art or a related craft discipline.
• Comfortable teaching foundational art techniques to mixed-age, mixed-skill-level students.
• Provide simple, achievable learning goals appropriate for ages 6–14.
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
• Communicate material needs (supplies, equipment, space set-up) to the Educational Program Coordinator.
• Follow all MBCPR policies and safety procedures.

Compensation: CONTRACTED HOURLY OR PER-SESSION RATE BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND FIELD

SUMMARY

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is seeking a skilled, passionate community member to lead a 4-week Art enrichment module for local homeschool students, ages 6–14, with support from MBCPR staff. Classes should be hands-on and accessible, introducing students to visual art techniques such as drawing, painting, mixed media, or pottery, while building skills and confidence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 21 years of age minimum
• Plan and teach a 4-week class series in visual art or a related craft discipline
• Comfortable teaching foundational art techniques to mixed-age, mixed-skill-level students
• Provide simple, achievable learning goals appropriate for ages 6–14
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
• Communicate material needs (supplies, equipment, space set-up) to the Educational Program Coordinator
• Follow all MBCPR policies and safety procedures

ESSENTIAL DUITES AND REPONSIBILITES include the following:

• Plans and delivers a structured 4-week art curriculum with clear, age-appropriate learning goals

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Completes daily duties with efficiency and minimal supervision. Provides reports to the team weekly or as required.

COMMUNICATION – VERBAL AND WRITTEN

A clear communicator who shares information with the supervisor, team members, and parents to support smooth program operation. Must handle differences of opinion professionally, follow instructions conscientiously, and function well as part of a team.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, REQUIREMENTS, VISUAL ACUITY, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors, in a variety of conditions. Tasks may require standing for long periods, lifting/carrying equipment or kits up to 50 pounds, and setting up/tearing down tech or building stations. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

• Bending, kneeling, or crouching to assist with builds or equipment setup
