Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is seeking a CONTRACT INSTRUCTOR - MUSIC ENRICHMENT to lead a 4-week music module for local homeschool students, ages 6–14, with support from staff. The instructor will plan lessons, prepare materials, and guide hands-on activities in a welcoming environment.

The role requires teaching foundational music skills to mixed-age learners, coordinating with the Educational Program Coordinator, and maintaining safety and inclusivity across sessions.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age
• Plan and teach a 4-week class series in music or a related performing art
• Comfortable teaching foundational music skills to mixed-age, mixed-skill-level students
• Provide simple, achievable learning goals appropriate for ages 6–14
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
• Communicate material and equipment needs to Educational Program Coordinator
• Follow all MBCPR policies and safety procedures

Compensation: CONTRACTED HOURLY OR PER-SESSION RATE BASED ON EXPERIENCE AND FIELD

SUMMARY

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is seeking a skilled, passionate community member to lead a 4-week Music enrichment module for local homeschool students, ages 6–14, with support from MBCPR staff. Classes should be hands-on and accessible, covering general music education, beginning instrument instruction, singing, or rhythm-based activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 21 years of age minimum
• Plan and teach a 4-week class series in music or a related performing art
• Comfortable teaching foundational music skills to mixed-age, mixed-skill-level students
• Provide simple, achievable learning goals appropriate for ages 6–14

• Communicate material and equipment needs (instruments, sound equipment) to the Educational Program Coordinator
• Follow all MBCPR policies and safety procedures

ESSENTIAL DUITES AND REPONSIBILITES include the following:

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

Completes daily duties with efficiency and minimal supervision. Provides reports to the team weekly or as required.

COMMUNICATION – VERBAL AND WRITTEN

A clear communicator who shares information with the supervisor, team members, and parents to support smooth program operation. Must handle differences of opinion professionally, follow instructions conscientiously, and function well as part of a team.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES, REQUIREMENTS, VISUAL ACUITY, AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work occurs primarily indoors, occasionally outdoors, in a variety of conditions. Tasks may require standing for long periods, lifting/carrying equipment or kits up to 50 pounds, and setting up/tearing down tech or building stations. Reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

• Bending, kneeling, or crouching to assist with builds or equipment setup
