Job summary

Midi Health is seeking an Eligibility Specialist (Contract) to join our Revenue Cycle team. The ideal candidate will verify patient insurance coverage and determine eligibility for services before they are rendered by clinicians, ensuring a smooth billing process in a fast-paced telehealth environment.

This 1099 contractor role pays $20 per hour, requires at least 2 years in medical billing or eligibility verification, and involves using AthenaHealth, payer portals, and Zendesk.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing, front office, insurance verification, or eligibility-related roles.
• Proficient with AthenaHealth or another EHR, insurance payer portals and other eligibility verification systems.
• Must have eligibility experience with major commercial plans across multiple states in a telehealth model.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; explain complex insurance details clearly.

Responsibilities

• Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility using AthenaHealth and payer portals.
• Obtain and track pre-authorizations when required.
• Identify primary and secondary coverage to coordinate benefits and avoid denials.
• Maintain documentation of verification outcomes in the system and ensure billing compliance.
• Collaborate with billing and patients to resolve eligibility issues, holds, or denials.
• Maintain insurance-provider mapping database with Operations team.
• Notify patients of discrepancies and provide guidance.
• Ensure patient information is recorded accurately for billing.
• Follow up on pending verifications to prevent billing delays.
• Use AthenaHealth and tools to confirm eligibility before appointments.
