Job description

About Heggerty

Heggerty is a literacy leader providing innovative, research-proven reading and writing solutions for Pre-K through 5th-grade classrooms. Heggerty’s integrated collection of literacy solutions provides teachers with the approachable, research-backed resources they need to close student skill gaps and supplement existing ELA curricula.

About the role

Heggerty is seeking experienced, bilingual facilitators in California to deliver high-quality professional development to teachers and school leaders. In this contract role, consultants will facilitate engaging virtual and in-person training sessions, equipping educators with the knowledge and confidence to implement Heggerty’s evidence-based literacy practices.

Ideal candidates will have deep knowledge of structured literacy and reading development and prior experience in consulting, facilitation, and professional development delivery, especially in literacy instruction. This role is perfect for individuals who have transitioned out of the classroom but remain committed to improving student outcomes by partnering with educators and school leaders.

You will play a critical role in supporting the development and delivery of high-quality bilingual literacy instruction. This position requires fluency in Spanish to effectively convey and reinforce literacy concepts in both English and Spanish, ensuring that instruction is linguistically responsive and accessible to all learners. The specialist will collaborate with educators to implement best practices in bilingual education, support dual-language learners, and promote literacy growth across diverse student populations.

This is a needs-based, contract position throughout the school year with peak demand during back-to-school months, requiring flexible availability and extensive travel.

What you'll do

  • Facilitate Professional Development: Deliver engaging, research-based training sessions on the Heggerty curriculum, both virtually and in-person, to support educators in effective implementation.
  • Adapt to Educator Needs: Tailor training approaches to meet the unique contexts of schools and districts, ensuring professional development is practical and impactful.
  • Manage Session Logistics: Coordinate professional development sessions, including scheduling, sharing materials, sending follow-ups, and ensuring a seamless learning experience.
  • Stay Current & Collaborate: Participate in onboarding, routine training, and internal meetings to stay informed on product updates, instructional best practices, and training enhancements.
  • Support Educator Learning: Serve as a knowledgeable resource for participants, answering questions and providing guidance during professional development sessions.
  • Ensure Professionalism & Preparedness: Independently manage travel and scheduling commitments during peak training seasons.
  • Provide Feedback & Professional Communications: Act as a liaison between Heggerty and our partners as a “voice of Heggerty” and ensure that issues and needs are communicated to all parties in a timely and effective manner.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish is required to effectively support the implementation of bilingual literacy instruction, including the delivery and reinforcement of literacy concepts in both English and Spanish.

Educational & Professional Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, literacy, or a related field (advanced degree in literacy, reading science, or a related field strongly preferred).
  • Relevant certifications in literacy instruction, structured literacy, or dyslexia intervention (e.g., LETRS, Orton-Gillingham, or similar) are a plus.
  • Experience delivering professional development to educators in various learning formats (webinar, in-person, asynchronous).
  • Prior classroom teaching experience, with a strong foundation in evidence-based literacy practices.
  • Familiarity with Heggerty curricula and relevant instructional approaches aligned with the Science of Reading and best practices in literacy instruction.

Technical & Instructional Skills:

  • Expertise in using educational technologies to support student and teacher learning.
  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to engage adult learners and apply best practices in professional development.

Communication & Organization:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt professional development sessions to meet the needs of diverse educators.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, able to manage logistics for training sessions.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Slides, etc.) and virtual meeting platforms (Zoom).
  • Contractors must provide their own equipment, including a computer, microphone, and webcam.
  • Must have a reliable internet connection and a quiet, professional workspace for delivering virtual training.
  • Travel requirements: Ability to travel as needed, particularly during peak seasons (July–October). Ideal candidates are preferably located near a major airport for ease of travel.
  • Location: Remote
