Job summary

SoundOff Signal is seeking a motivated student in business, engineering, or related field to join our team as a Lean/Continuous Improvement associate intern. You will gain hands-on experience supporting improvement initiatives across the organization.

You'll collect and analyze operational data, create value stream maps, and help maintain KPI dashboards while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Summer in-person work on-site at our Hudsonville facility is required.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree in business, engineering, or related field.
• Previous coursework or project experience related to manufacturing, production systems, or engineering analysis preferred.

Essential Job Functions

• Assist with Continuous Improvement projects across the organization.
• Collect, organize, and analyze operational data.
• Create and update process maps (VSMs), standardized work, and visual management tools.
• Support KPI tracking and dashboard updates.
• Participate in Kaizen events and problem-solving activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
• Document project progress, action items, and results.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support improvement initiatives.
• Prepare presentations and reports for project updates.
• Learn and apply Lean and Continuous Improvement principles.
• Demonstrates SoundOff Signal's Core Values in daily interactions with internal and external customers.
• Able to perform job consistently without excessive absenteeism or tardiness.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts such as time studies, line balancing, and 5S principles
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to collect, analyze, and document operational data
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, and operations
• Must be proficient & knowledgeable with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Must be detail oriented and well organized
• Ability to work in-person during the summer

Physical/Mental/Sensory Requirements

• Able to lift up to 35 lbs
• Able to stand and sit for various lengths of time
• Able to bend/twist and reach a limited amount of time

Working Conditions

• Mix of office and production floor environment including:
• Little to Medium noise level
• Moderate temperature ranges

Minimum Requirements
