Job summary

South Texas College seeks a continuing education Cake Decorator Trainer to instruct students in decorating courses and develop skills in basic cake decorating.

You will implement curricula, evaluate progress, and motivate learners to succeed while maintaining records and coordinating with coordinators. Some travel across the college district is required; evenings/weekends may be needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in cake decorating.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Ability to travel throughout the college district using own transportation.

General Statement of Job

The Continuing Education Cake Decorator Trainer instructs students in Continuing Education Cake Decorating courses for the development of skills, concepts and techniques of basic cake decorating.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

• Instructs students in Continuing Education courses related to Cake Decorating as directed by supervisor.
• Implements educational curriculum to ensure student success.
• Evaluates and optimizes educational curriculum.
• Motivates students to attend class, learn, and be successful.
• Creates individual educational plans to support timely coursework completion; ensures that students complete their individual educational plan in a timely manner.
• Maintains student and class records.
• Tracks student attendance.
• Assessments students' academic performance.
• Completes and submits course documentation when due.
• Informs Coordinators of students not meeting attendance and academic goals and/or not complying with behavior expectations.
• Informs Coordinators of support services for students.
• Maintains a positive, productive classroom and handles behavior problems effectively.
• Communicates with students, staff and peers in a professional, respectful, and constructive manner.
• Conducts sponsor-teacher conferences.
• Travels throughout the College district, as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of 1 (one) year of experience in cake decorating required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
