Job summary

St. Louis Community College Continuing Education instructors are part-time, temporary hires who teach non-credit courses for the community. Instructors may teach in person and/or online, with classes offered day, evening, or weekend.

They create their own curriculum and plan courses 6–10 months ahead, and must be available to work on-site by the course start date. Prior teaching experience and online instruction experience are preferred.

• Minimum degree or certificate in their field or proven history of applied experience.
• Reliable computer/internet access and proficiency required.
• Background check is required; Family Care Safety Registry check for students under 16.

Responsibilities

• Develop and present subject matter to a diverse community with minimal supervision.
• Adapt presentations for different educational levels and prepare written materials.
• Use computer tools effectively and communicate via the College email.
• For online classes, have own equipment and use Zoom (College provides Zoom license).
• Complete up to two hours of annual training and follow college policies.

Job description

Continuing Education (CE) instructors are part-time, temporary hires who teach personal enrichment and professional development courses for the community. Applicants should note that this position is limited to non-credit courses and excludes instruction for college-credit or degree-based semester programs. CE instructors are selected based on subject-matter expertise and a passion for sharing knowledge. Courses may be offered in person and/or online, with scheduling options during the day, evening, or weekends. Instructors are responsible for providing their own curriculum, and course planning occurs 6-10 months in advance. Applicants must live in the St. Louis metropolitan area and be physically available to work onsite by the course start date. Prior teaching experience and online instruction experience are preferred. Primary Duties Performed

• Instructor must have the knowledge to teach the proposed subject area topic and work independently to develop and present subject area class information and materials to a diverse group of community members with minimal supervision and establish a good rapport with students.
• Instructor must have the ability to adapt presentations for understanding at various educational levels and develop easy-to-understand oral presentations along with developing written materials where needed.
• Strong computer skills are necessary and required. Instructor must have the ability to skillfully use a computer and are required to communicate with the College staff using the stlcc.edu email provided at time of hire. Must be able to respond to requests in a timely manner.
• For online classes, instructors must have their own equipment to conduct the class and have the technical skills to navigate online communication platforms including but not limited to Zoom. College will provide Zoom license for instructor class use.
• Instructors are required to complete up to two hours of annual training on their own time and adhere to college policies and practices.

• Qualifications vary. Minimum requirements are a degree or certificate in the field of expertise or a proven history of applied experience. Reliable computer/internet access and proficiency are required.
• Completion of a successful background check is applicable to all applicants. In addition, if teaching for students under 16 years of age, applicants must also register and be verified through the Family Care Safety Registry background check

• Prior teaching experience in an educational or community setting.
