Job summary

Howard County Government is seeking a compassionate aide to support the Social Day Program for older adults with cognitive impairment. The role involves assisting with daily activities, transportation coordination, and program planning under supervision, Monday through Friday, about 25–30 hours weekly.

Candidates should have an Associate's degree or at least one year of related experience. Strong interpersonal and computer skills, plus knowledge of memory loss and Elder care, are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the food service component of the congregate meal program including serving, oversight, and cleaning after meals.
• Supervise participants during transitions and activities.
• Develop and lead programs for diverse older adults.
• Provide back-up coverage for other staff as needed.
• May support programs within the 50+ Center.

STARTING SALARY IS $20 HOURLY

WORK DAYS: The position work days are Monday through Friday and approximately 25-30 hours per week.

This position would be knowledgeable of individuals experiencing cognitive impairment and/or memory loss. Serves the Connections participants by assisting with the overall operation of the Social Day Program to include programming, food service, and administrative support. Duties include participant assistance, program planning and/or implementation, information and assistance, transportation coordination.

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Assists with maintaining a safe environment for individuals experiencing cognitive impairment and/or memory loss.
• Provides supervision, cueing and/or hands-on assistance to meet activities of daily living including assistance with feeding, continence management, transferring, and ambulation.
• Supports and assists with the food service component of the congregate meal program including serving, oversight, and cleaning following the meal.
• Provide supervision of participants during transitions and while participating in program activities.
• Develops and lead programs serving a diverse older adultpopulation.
• Provide back-up coverage for other staff as needed.
• May provide support to programs held within the 50+ Center.

Associate's degree and/or a minimum of one (1) year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) licensure; Healthcare Background and/or Licensed Healthcare professional
• Knowledgeable about cognitive impairment, including memory loss.
• Ability to work on cooperative, courteous, and effective basis with the general public, especially adults living with disabilities and their caregivers
• Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with an ethnically diverse population.
• Strong computer proficiency especially with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point), database management and spreadsheet applications.
• Proficiency in virtual platforms and use of technology for human services delivery.
