Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist the activities coordinator in planning, organizing, and directing a diversified recreation program to support the social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual well‑being of the residents.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Activities Director in visiting new residents, reviewing the activities calendar and encouraging participation in the activities program as appropriate.
  • Report to the Activities Director any special interests or needs of residents noted during activities or visits.
  • Escort residents to and from activities, as needed, and offer frequent reminders of scheduled events.
  • Distribute monthly calendar of activities to all residents' rooms, providing large print calendars to residents with vision deficit.
  • Independently organize and direct scheduled activities on weekends or when the Activities Director is unavailable.
  • Always maintain confidentiality and promote residents' rights.
  • Prepare the activities room for specific activities and return the room to an orderly arrangement when activities are over.
  • Assist Activities Director as requested in implementing the full activities program, making work schedule adjustments as necessary to meet the demands of special events or circumstances.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications & Education

High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on‑the‑job education in a specific skill area (e.g., data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.) plus 2 years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, notes, letters, and memos; Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Ability to use common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

Under direction where a definite objective is set up and the employee plans and arranges own work, referring only unusual cases to supervisor. Considerable responsibility regarding general assignments in planning time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work; may also occasionally assist in the planning of work assignments performed by others within a limited area of operation.

Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision‑making of minor importance and frequent opportunity for decision‑making of major importance; the latter of which would affect the work operations of other employees and/or clientele to a moderate degree.

Close mental demand. Operations requiring close and continuous attention for control of operations. Operations requiring intermittent direct thinking to determine or select the most applicable way of handling situations regarding the organization's administration and operations; also, to determine or select material and equipment where highly variable sequences are involved.

Moderately structured. Fairly broad activities using moderately structured procedures with only generally guided supervision. Interpolation of learned things in somewhat varied situations.

Occasionally responsible for organization's property where carelessness, error, or misappropriation would result in moderate damage or moderate monetary loss to the organization. The total value for the above would range from $5,000 to $150,000.

Regular contacts with patrons, either within the office or in the field. May also involve occasional self‑initiated contacts to patrons. Lack of tact and judgment may result in a limited type of problem for the organization.

Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, driver's license/cdl, etc.).

Periodically exposed to such elements as noise, intermittent standing, walking, pushing, carrying, or lifting; but none are present to the extent of being disagreeable.

Basic: Presentation/PowerPoint, Spreadsheet, Word Processing/Typing.

Physical Demands

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Employees must have excellent balance and be able to climb a ladder and walk around a roof. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and be able to work at heights. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus as well as work on a computer for extended periods of time. The employee must be able to communicate verbally with others on the phone or in person.
