Job summary

The Steel Network, Inc. is seeking a Content Writer (Technical & Creative) to develop clear content across building sciences, health, wellness, and nonprofit spaces.

You’ll craft texts for social media, websites, blogs, and email, translating technical research into accessible messaging for varied audiences. This is in-office in Durham, with collaboration across designers, developers, and subject-matter experts.

Qualifications

• Degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, Public Relations or related field.
• Exceptional recent graduates with strong writing samples considered.
• Strong portfolio or writing samples required.
• Experience researching and translating technical topics into clear content.
• Experience publishing content in a CMS such as WordPress.

Responsibilities

• Write clear, engaging content for social media, blogs, websites, and email campaigns.
• Translate engineering, technical, or research-based information into approachable marketing copy.
• Adapt tone and messaging for contractors, architects, engineers, consumers, donors, and other audiences.
• Draft email campaigns and assist with basic formatting and scheduling.
• Prepare written briefs and content specifications for designers and web developers.
• Support website updates and content quality checks.
• Collaborate with internal teams to support accuracy, clarity, consistency, and on-brand content.

The Content Writer (Technical & Creative)

develops written content across multiple brands in the building sciences, health, wellness, and nonprofit spaces. The role creates clear, engaging content for social media, websites, blogs, and email and translates technical or research-based information into accessible messaging for varied audiences.

This is a writing-focused, collaborative role that works with designers, developers, and subject-matter experts. Content performance may be reviewed at a high level, but the role is not analytics or advertising-driven.

Primary Responsibilities

Content Development

• Write clear, engaging content for social media, blogs, websites, and email campaigns.
• Translate engineering, technical, or research-based information into approachable marketing copy.
• Adapt tone and messaging for contractors, architects, engineers, consumers, donors, and other audiences.

Campaign, Website & Production Support

• Draft email campaigns and assist with basic formatting and scheduling.
• Prepare written briefs and content specifications for designers and web developers.
• Support website updates and content quality checks.

Collaboration & Quality

• Collaborate with internal teams to support accuracy, clarity, consistency, and on-brand content.

Skills And Qualifications

• Strong writing and editing skills with close attention to detail.
• Ability to write clearly from technical or research-based inputs.

• Organization, dependability, and ability to manage multiple projects.

Education & Experience

Preferred Experience

• Experience in construction, engineering, healthcare, or research-heavy industries.
• Professional writing experience.

Work Schedule

• Full-time, Monday-Friday, in office in Durham, North Carolina.
• Minimal to no travel.
