Job Description

The main function of a Content Writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment manuals, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing, and maintaining technical records and files.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Organize material and complete writing assignments according to standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
2. Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
3. Confer with clients to establish technical specifications and determine subject material for publication.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science, English, journalism, or communications.
• 8-10 years experience required.
• Experience in creating documentation for a technical audience.
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
• Ability to read some programming code.
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Job Requirements

• Minimum 7 years overall experience in technical writing, utilizing AI tools to enhance quality and efficiency, and creating internal communications and marketing materials.
• Degree in communications, public relations, or journalism required.
• Disqualifiers include candidates with frequent job changes or previous Microsoft experience of less than six months.
• Preferred candidates have recent Microsoft experience (last five years), a background in IT, and strong writing skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and experience with AI tools.
• Performance will be assessed based on meeting deadlines and quality of work.

Typical Day in the Role

Purpose of the Team: The End User Engagement Experiences team helps roll out technology changes to Microsoft employees, testing new technologies and pushing their limits at scale.

Key Projects: Focused on rolling out agents and implementing Copilot, creating imagery and marketing materials using AI, and improving internal communications with AI tools.

Typical Tasks and Operating Rhythm:

• 20-25% Meetings
• 50% Asset Development: writing or creating imagery
• 25-30% Communication and Implementation: interacting with content PM and FTE, discussing priorities, and executing tasks
