Job summary

Buck Mason in Los Angeles is seeking a senior copywriter/content strategist to shape our brand voice across email, site, social, paid, and in-store channels. You’ll work closely with merchandising, creative, and email teams onsite to ensure every word serves the Buck Mason point of view.

With 4+ years in copywriting or content strategy, you’ll define the customer and the objective before writing. You understand menswear and womenswear deeply, maintain high taste, and defend brand first

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in copywriting, content strategy, or editorial, ideally at an apparel or lifestyle brand with a distinct voice.
  • A clear, well-argued point of view on content.
  • Product obsessed, with deep working knowledge of menswear and womenswear: construction, fabric, fit, and how people actually wear clothes.
  • Customer centric. You write for a specific person and you can describe them.
  • An excellent writer with range: tight and plain when the product should speak, warmer and longer when the story earns it.
  • Comfortable owning strategy and execution at once. You set the plan and you write the copy.
  • A high bar for taste. You notice when a line, a word, or a layout is slightly off, and you fix it before anyone else sees it.
  • A high bar for brand first principles. You know what the brand is and isn't, you can articulate why, and you say no to a headline, a caption, or a campaign that doesn't fit, even when it would perform.
  • Collaborative and direct. You hold a high bar and make the people around you better.
  • A portfolio that shows taste, restraint, and voice across more than one channel.

Responsibilities

  • Set the content strategy across channels: what we say, where, in what voice, and why.
  • Own and evolve the brand voice. Write the guidelines, then be the example of them.
  • For every brief, define the objective and the customer before the copy: a launch email, a product page, a social post, and a paid ad each have a different job.
  • Write the copy: product descriptions, product names, email, site, social, campaign lines, and long-form when a story deserves it.
  • Partner with merchandising, design, and marketing teams so product, image, and words all tell one story.
  • Build and keep a point of view on product. Know the fabric, the make, the fit, and the reason a garment exists, for both men's and women's.
  • Turn products into platforms. Our core franchises deserve names, language, and ideas that are ours: brandable, ownable, and built to last longer than a season. You help shape a product into a story and help tell that story across channels.
  • Help drive GTM storytelling. You help decide what we're saying each month, why it matters to the customer, and how it shows up across every channel, so the calendar is a sequence of stories and not just a list of launches.
  • Review content across the brand for consistency and quality, and give direct, useful feedback.
  • Own the results. Product page conversion, email click rate, and social engagement are how we know the words are working, and you read them every week and adjust.
  • Be the reason the brand sounds like one brand. Anyone at Buck Mason should be able to say what our point of view is, and that's your job to make true.

Job description

About The Role

You decide how Buck Mason sounds and what our content is for. This is more than a copywriting job. You bring a strong point of view on how content should show up across every channel (email, site, social, paid, in-store) and you hold that line. You know menswear and womenswear deeply, you think hard about who our customer is, and you can say what a given piece of content needs to do before you write a word of it. Your bar for taste is high, you understand what Buck Mason stands for, and you hold every piece of content to those first principles. This role is based full time at our Los Angeles headquarters, in the room with the merchandising, creative, and email teams you'll work with every day.

Sasha Koehn and Erik Allen founded Buck Mason in 2013 to simplify the American wardrobe. Meeting as neighbors in Venice Beach, they started designing and selling clothes out of a small studio off Abbot Kinney Boulevard. Sasha built the website and Erik created the brand’s first collection of jeans and tees. Taking an architectural approach to design, they built each piece to last far beyond a single season. Obsessed with quality, they worked with local mills and factories to create the finest fabrics down to the thread. Today, Buck Mason offers a broad range of clothing and accessories with a continued commitment to making high-quality, modern American classics.

Here at Buck Mason, we're all about transparency and fairness, especially when it comes to compensation. While the base salary range for this role is $75,000.00 - 85,000.00 per year, your total compensation package may include commissions, bonuses and other perks tailored to your performance and dedication to our craft.
