Position Summary: The Content Manager serves as MAF’s editorial lead, guiding cross-functional content strategy and ensuring a unified organizational voice. This hands‑on role plans, writes, edits and coordinates content across donor, digital, scientific program and partner channels, translating organizational priorities and approved scientific information into compelling stories that motivate action and connect audiences to MAF’s mission.

The Content Manager also helps build and maintain MAF’s brand and AI writing agent, using strong editorial judgment, audience awareness and scientific curiosity to improve content quality, consistency and scale.

Responsibilities of Position
Content Creation & Unified Voice
  • Develop and maintain a consistent MAF voice and tone across content types and audiences, adapting style and complexity while preserving brand integrity.
  • Write and edit content across donor, web, email, social media, blog, event and print channels, and refine content drafted by others for audience clarity, brand alignment and editorial quality.
  • Translate scientific research, program updates and study findings into clear, engaging content for donor and lay audiences, and support professional‑facing communications in partnership with Scientific Programs.
  • Develop annual and campaign‑level content plans aligned with fundraising strategy, editorial calendars and organizational priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Graphic & UX Designer from concept through execution to create integrated content experiences across web, email, social, campaign and print channels. Ensure messaging, design, layout and user experience work together to achieve communication and fundraising goals.
  • Coordinate content development across departments, gathering input from subject matter experts while maintaining editorial ownership and accountability for content quality and consistency.
Scientific Programs Content
  • Serve as a collaborative content partner to the Scientific Programs team, helping translate research priorities, scientific expertise and program goals into clear, audience‑appropriate communications.
  • Establish and maintain familiarity with MAF‑funded research, scientific platforms, grant portfolios and emerging areas of focus.
  • Edit and adapt scientific communications, including study updates, selected researcher communications, grant announcements, program materials, partner reports and web content, working from source material and guidance provided by Scientific Programs.
  • Translate complex scientific concepts into clear, engaging content for donors, study participants, pet owners and other non‑scientific audiences while preserving scientific accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Scientific Programs staff to review and refine content. The Content Manager owns voice, audience clarity and brand alignment; the appropriate scientific expert validates scientific interpretation and accuracy.
Fundraising & Donor Communications
  • Serve as a collaborative content partner to the Development team, helping translate fundraising priorities, donor insights and campaign objectives into compelling donor‑facing communications.
  • Write and edit donor‑facing content, including fundraising campaigns, appeals, acknowledgments, impact reports, stewardship communications and major donor materials.
  • Develop content for email, campaign landing pages, direct mail, social media and paid media campaigns that connect donors to MAF's mission, research impact and funding priorities.
  • Contribute to campaign planning by providing content strategy input, messaging recommendations and narrative frameworks that support fundraising goals.
AI Tools & Content Technology
  • Partner with Marketing and IT leadership to build, refine and maintain MAF's brand and writing agent, a custom AI tool informed by MAF's voice, scientific platforms and messaging architecture.
  • Implement, maintain and evolve the content architecture that informs the agent, including voice guidelines, audience frameworks, messaging hierarchies, editorial standards and platform‑specific content strategies.
  • Use and improve AI‑supported content workflows to produce, review, refine and repurpose content efficiently across channels and audiences.
  • Apply strong editorial judgment to evaluate AI‑generated content, identify gaps, correct inaccuracies and maintain quality across output.
  • Maintain and iterate on the agent as MAF's scientific platforms, messaging strategy and content needs evolve.
  • Stay current with developments in AI writing tools and content technology, and support responsible, effective AI integration within MAF.

  • Demonstrated research literacy and ability to communicate scientific or technical concepts accurately and accessibly in partnership with subject matter experts; experience with health, science, research or another complex field preferred.
  • Proven consensus‑building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to gather and reconcile input from cross‑functional partners, guide collaborative content decisions and maintain editorial ownership while keeping stakeholders engaged and bought in.
