About the Minnesota DFL Party

Democrats across the country have looked to the Minnesota DFL Party as a model for how to win elections and improve people’s lives. For more than seventy years, the Minnesota DFL has worked tirelessly to enact progressive policies and provide a platform for those who need it most. We believe that every Minnesotan has a right to stable employment with fair wages, to a proper education, to raise and provide for a family, to accessible and affordable health care, to live in safe communities, and to retire with dignity and security.

Position Overview

The Content Director leads the creation of compelling written, visual, and multimedia content that advances the DFL’s message, supports our candidates, and helps define our opponents.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, Research, and Data, the Content Director serves as the Communication team’s lead content producer—translating communications strategy into compelling talking points, graphics, videos, remarks, newsletters, toolkits, and other communications products across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

The Content Director will:

Content Production & Storytelling
  • Produce compelling written, visual, and multimedia content that advances the DFL’s communications priorities.
  • Translate strategic messaging into content outputs across earned, digital, email, web, fundraising, and organizing channels.
  • Draft and edit talking points, social media copy, website copy, newsletters, remarks, and other written communications as assigned.
  • Develop integrated content toolkits that translate communications priorities into ready-to-use messaging, graphics, videos, social media copy, talking points, and other campaign assets for use across the DFL.
Creative & Brand Leadership
  • Design digital and print graphics, including social media graphics, infographics, event branding, flyers, presentations, signage, and campaign materials.
  • Serve as steward of the Minnesota DFL brand by maintaining high visual and editorial standards across communications.
  • Develop templates and creative assets that strengthen consistency across the organization.
Video & Multimedia
  • Clip and produce short- and long-form video content for daily use in social media.
  • Capture and edit photography and video at DFL events and major campaign moments.
Collaboration & Rapid Response
  • Partner closely with the Senior Director, Press Secretary, Digital Director, and Research team to rapidly translate breaking news and research into communications products.
  • Support rapid response efforts by developing graphics, videos, messaging assets, and content packages on tight deadlines.
  • Coordinate and amplify communications produced by DFL campaigns, elected officials, and coalition partners.
Other
  • Assist with additional communications-related projects as assigned by the Senior Director, Communications, Research, and Data.
Who You Are

You are someone who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments and brings a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach to your work. You believe in the DFL’s values and are excited to contribute your skills to making change in Minnesota.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • A commitment to the values of the DFL Party and electing Democrats at every level
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • A flexible, “all-hands-on-deck” mindset
  • A demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and identities

Additional qualifications that will help you succeed in this role:

  • Excellent graphic design skills (Adobe Creative Suite required).
  • Excellent video editing skills (Adobe Premiere, Cap Cut, or similar technical skills required.)
  • Experience with DSLR cameras, capturing high-quality images and video.
  • Experience creating high-quality social media and digital content, including photo and video.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce effective written communications across short- and long-form formats.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Strong judgment and attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond quickly to breaking news and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as campaign needs require.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We encourage you to apply anyway. Studies show that women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and members of other underrepresented communities often hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification. At the DFL, we are committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of Minnesota — including people of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and backgrounds. We believe our party and our work are stronger when everyone is included and empowered.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a full-time, exempt position. The DFL offers a competitive benefits package, including:

  • Salary band of $70,000-90,000
  • Competitive benefits package including health care and dental
  • Paid time off and holidays
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Professional development opportunities
