Job summary

Envista Credit Union in Topeka, KS is seeking a Consumer Loan Underwriter to analyze loan requests and render credit decisions within authority. This role collaborates with loan originators and processors to ensure complete, accurate applications and to grow the lending portfolio.

The position requires 3–5 years of related underwriting experience and solid knowledge of lending regulations. A two-year degree or equivalent certification is expected, with competitive pay and benefits offered.

Consumer Loan Underwriter

Consumer Lending Full Time Topeka, KS, US

What this role looks like:

Analyze loan requests provided by Consumer Loan Originators and make credit decisions within authorized authority based on financial status, credit, collateral, lending policy etc. Makes recommendations to Consumer Lending Manager when outside of authorized authority. Corresponds/converses with Consumer Loan Originators and Consumer Loan Processors frequently to resolve questions regarding application information provided and accuracy and completeness. Analyzes potential lending opportunities to further assist the borrower as well as increase the credit union's lending portfolio. This position is located in Topeka, KS and is not eligible for remote work.

The day-to-day:

• Analyze loan requests provided by Consumer Loan Originators and make credit decisions within authorized authority based on financial status, credit, collateral, lending policy etc. Makes recommendations to Consumer Lending Manager when outside of authorized authority.
• Support the Consumer Loan Originators and Consumer Loan Processors with workload when necessary to ensure quality service standards are met.
• Correspond/converse with Consumer Loan Originators and Consumer Loan Processors frequently to resolve questions regarding application information provided and accuracy and completeness.
• Analyze potential lending opportunities to further assist the borrower as well as increase the credit union's lending portfolio.
• Keep informed of current trends in consumer credit and any applicable laws and regulations impacting consumer lending. Ensure underwriting is in compliance with applicable laws and regulations as well as Envista policies and procedures.
• Contact other departments and or outside agencies to resolve common problems.
• Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

• C urrent knowledge of applicable State and Federal Laws and Industry Regulations to ensure the Credit Union's policies and procedures remain compliant and are adhered to in all areas.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations, to members and clients.
• Possess excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products.
• A team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.
• Detailed-oriented, a high degree of accuracy and ability to work independently.

Education and Experience:

• Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
• (1) A two-year college degree, or (2) completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or (3) completion of specialized training courses conducted by vendors, or (4) job-specific skills acquired through an apprenticeship program.
