POSITION SUMMARY

Investigates complaints and mediates solutions to complaints. Educates consumers and businesses on consumer protection issues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receives and handles consumer complaints in person and on the telephone.
  • Answers telephone inquiries, advises consumers and data enters complaints in computer.
  • Gathers information for Director for educational and consumer programs.
  • Monitors consumer programs in the media; works with other agencies; and assists with displays and consumer education efforts as assigned.
  • Prepares input to weekly “Troubleshooter” column.
  • Maintains daily and monthly reports, assists in mailing information to the consumer and prepares information to be used in exhibits.
  • Gives occasional speeches to public groups.
  • Personally investigates on-site consumer complaints as assigned.
  • Represents the Director at meetings and conferences in his/her absence.
  • Operates office equipment such as personal computer, facsimile machine and copier.
  • May be required to perform additional work that follows prescribed or well-established procedures that can be learned within a reasonable time by training on the job. More detailed instructions as to the nature of their duties will be given to employees at the beginning of work.
