Job summary

Nationwide in Rockaway, New Jersey, is seeking an experienced software engineer to help protect data and deliver secure technology solutions for a Fortune 100 company.

The role emphasizes Agile practices, DevSecOps, and collaboration across multiple teams. Candidates should have 6+ years in software engineering and strong leadership experience, with a preference for PM experience. Hybrid in-office 3 days, remote 2 days.

Qualifications

• Six or more years of programming, software engineering or systems analysis experience.
• Three years of experience in project management is preferred.
• Hands-on technical leadership experience and ability to set technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect data and solutions.
• Mentor and train team members on design techniques, tools, and coding standards.
• Provide strategic technical advice to achieve business and technology goals/strategy.
• Drive cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for applying secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.
• Mentor and train other team members on design techniques, tools, and coding standards.
• Provide strategic technical advice on using technology to achieve business and technology goals/strategy.
• Drive cross-collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams.
• Analyze solutions, develop, test, debug, document, and deploy moderately complex software according to standards and best practices.
• Champion the adoption and effective use of DevSecOps practices, tooling, and techniques to improve software quality, security, automation, and delivery efficiency across teams.
• Manages multiple medium to large project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables proactively.
• May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences

• Education : Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or related field are strongly preferred.
• Experience : Six or more years of programming, software engineering or systems analysis experience. Three years of experience in project management is preferred.
• Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Hands-on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction. Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, and JavaScript. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle sophisticated business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
• Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
• Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager\'s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
