Nationwide is seeking a Software Engineer in Columbus, OH, supporting Nationwide Financial Technology Annuity. The role blends hybrid work with a focus on mentoring and delivering secure technology solutions for a Fortune 100 company.

You will craft new software applications or modify existing ones, driving DevSecOps practices and collaborating across teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions while aligning with Nationwide's agile, collaborative culture.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate studies in computer science, MIS, mathematics or related field preferred.
• Six years of programming and systems analysis experience.
• Three years of project management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Apply secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to protect data and technology.
• Mentor and trains other team members on design techniques, tools and coding standards.
• Provide strategic advice on using technology to achieve goals.
• Drive cross‑collaboration and execution of projects across multiple teams.
• Analyze, design, test, debug, document and deploy software per standards.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to a Technology Manager/Director.

Typical Skills and Experiences

• Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, mathematics or related field is strongly preferred.
• Experience: Six years of experience in programming and systems analysis. Three years of experience in project management is preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

• Hands‑on technical leadership experience leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Proficiency in one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
• Proven ability to tackle sophisticated business and development problems.
• Ability to thrive in a team environment.
• Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Compensation

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range. Note on Compensation for Part‑Time Roles: Please be aware that the salary ranges listed below reflect full‑time compensation. Actual compensation may be prorated based on the number of hours worked relative to a full‑time schedule. The national salary range for Consultant, Software Engineer: $118,000.00-$222,000.00 The expected starting salary range for Consultant, Software Engineer: $118,000.00 - $178,000.00
