Job summary

Consultant Ecologist – Belfast is sought to join our growing Nature Services Team. You will work with the Belfast Team Leader and colleagues on infrastructure, renewable energy and utility refurbishment projects.

You will plan ecology surveys, prepare tenders and EIAR chapters, apply the mitigation hierarchy and act as client liaison. Mentoring juniors and contributing to team meetings are part of the role; a generous training budget is available.

Qualifications

  • Academic qualification or relevant experience in ecology or related discipline.
  • Membership of CIEEM, IEMA or similar professional body.
  • Experience in consultancy with knowledge of UK and NI wildlife legislation and policy.
  • Experience across a range of Irish habitats and species.
  • Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment (EIAR) and writing EIAR chapters.
  • Experience of Appropriate Assessments.
  • Strong communication and proactive problem-solving skills.

  • Prepare tenders and ecological deliverables (PEA, EIAR chapters, AA).
  • Apply the mitigation hierarchy and assist in mitigation/BNG design.

  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Contribute to regular Ecology team meetings.
  • Utilise training and development budget for in-house and external training.

Consultant Ecologist – Belfast

We are seeking a Consultant Ecologist to join our growing Nature Services Team in Belfast. You will work closely with the Belfast Team Leader and colleagues to deliver a diverse range of projects including nationally significant infrastructure projects, renewable energy projects and utility refurbishment projects.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and undertake ecology surveys, including Extended Phase 1 Habitat and protected species surveys (red squirrel, pine marten, badger, otter, bat, smooth newt, etc).
  • Prepare tenders and a range of ecological deliverables, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, EIAR chapters and Appropriate Assessments.
  • Apply the mitigation hierarchy and participate in the design of mitigation and compensation measures, including BNG and biodiversity enhancements.
  • Act as client liaison and project manager.
  • Consult with and negotiate with regulators and stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Contribute to regular weekly and monthly Ecology team meetings.
  • Take advantage of a generous training and career development budget for in‑house and external training.
Qualifications
