Job description

Job Title: Consultant, Change Management
Location: Remote; Northeast US required
Description

Founded in 2004, BME Strategies is a Massachusetts-based consulting firm specializing in the design, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs for local, regional, and state government partners. Our work supports evidence-based, community-driven solutions that strengthen public health systems and advance equity across the communities we serve. At BME, our clients are on the front lines of Public Health. Priorities may shift but our commitment to supporting our partners does not. We take pride in having multi-year, multi-project engagements, often working closely as an extension of their staff. Our success comes from our shared values: a bias toward action; optimistically collaborative; willingness to navigate ambiguity; minimal ego - no job is too small or big; pursuing the equitable solution; always learning, and; committed to quality at every stage.

Position Overview

BME Strategies is seeking a Consultant, Change Management to lead our clients through the "people side" of organizational transformation. The person in this role will be a strategic partner to public health departments and nonprofits, moving beyond checklist-style project management to ensure that new policies, technologies (including AI), and protocols are deeply embedded and sustained by the workforce.

A key focus of this role is guiding local health partners through the adoption of AI-enabled tools and workflows, translating technical capability into practical, trusted practice on the ground. As an example, someone in this role may focus on why a deadline is missed, investigate human constraints like burnout or capacity gaps, and build the inclusive communication loops necessary to maintain organizational resilience.

Key Responsibilities

BME Org-Wide Responsibilities for Consultants:

  • Consultant roles at BME consist of approximately 85% project work, 5% administrative work, and 10% business development.
  • Leads or co-leads larger projects, technical and advisory, and contributes to project design.
  • Independently driving work with minimal day-to-day/project oversight.
  • May supervise Associates and Senior Associates.
  • Manages projects to exemplary client satisfaction.
  • Contributes to and/or leads proposals.

Role-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Transformation Leadership & Strategy: Lead the "People Side" of large-scale initiatives, ensuring that digital, operational, and AI-driven transitions are met with high adoption and minimal resistance.
  • Human-Centered Journey Mapping: Design and facilitate journey mapping sessions to identify friction points for frontline staff and stakeholders, ensuring implementation plans are grounded in the practitioner’s reality.
  • Strategic Stakeholder Engagement: Identify exactly who needs buy-in and partner with our Strategic Communications team to craft data-driven narratives that foster trust and alignment.
  • Workforce Development & Coaching: In partnership with our Workforce Development Team, provide hands-on coaching and upskilling to local leaders and staff, fostering long-term autonomy rather than temporary support.
  • Change Impact & Readiness Assessments: Conduct qualitative and quantitative assessments to evaluate organizational readiness and the magnitude of change, specifically within rural and urban health settings.
  • AI Change Management & Local Partner Support: Serve as a trusted advisor to local health departments, community health centers, and other local health partners as they adopt AI-enabled tools and workflows, translating technical AI capabilities into practical, human-centered guidance, addressing staff concerns about trust, data privacy, and job impact, and ensuring responsible, equity-centered adoption at the point of care and service delivery.
  • Embedded Liaison Services: Act as a primary point of contact for diverse coalitions, resolving operational issues by addressing the underlying human capacity needs.
Experience, Qualification, & Skills
  • Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience required, including 2 or more years in a consulting firm environment
    • Experience in organizational change management or public health leadership and consulting.
    • Experience with health systems in Massachusetts or other Northeastern states (Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York or New Jersey) is highly preferred.
    • Minimum 1-4 years of client-facing experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced consulting environment.
  • Core Competencies: Mastery of change management frameworks (e.g., Prosci ADKAR, Kotter) and experience applying them to people-powered systems.
  • Generalist Agility: Ability to "zoom out" for big‑picture visioning and "dive in" to execute critical details during peak workloads.
  • Technical Literacy: Proficiency in data visualization tools (Smartsheet, Tableau) to build "readiness" dashboards that track employee sentiment and adoption metrics.
  • AI & Emerging Technology Literacy: Working knowledge of AI-enabled tools and processes relevant to public health operations, with the ability to translate technical AI concepts into accessible, actionable guidance for frontline staff and local partners with varying levels of technical comfort.
  • Certification: Prosci or equivalent Change Management certification is preferred.
  • Mission Alignment: A deep commitment to health equity and a desire to build sustainable, inclusive public health infrastructure.
  • And an alignment with BME's shared values.
