Job summary

Jobtailor in Irvine, CA seeks an Asbestos Field Sampling Technician to support site investigation and decommissioning on environmental projects. You will implement health and safety plans, manage sample collection and documentation, and assist with sampling plans, reporting, and review.

The role requires a degree in engineering, geology, environmental science, or eight years' equivalent, plus 2+ years in asbestos-related work on industrial sites.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related discipline; or eight (8) years of equivalent experience
2+ years of experience in asbestos-related projects specifically to industrial sites, large demolition projects, construction safety, air compliance and contaminated site investigation
Current California DOSH Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) or Certified Site Surveillance (CSST) Certification
Current California CDPH Certified Lead Sampling Technician or Certified Lead Inspector / Assessor
Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to be cross trained in additional health and safety/industrial hygiene work
Ability to travel within the southern and central California areas
Valid driver's license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle

40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred
8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor certification preferred
CPR/First Aid certification preferred
Bloodborne pathogens training preferred
Confined space and excavation awareness training preferred
Emergency preparedness training preferred
Hazard recognition and job hazard analysis experience preferred
Incident investigation and root cause analysis experience preferred

Responsibilities

Serve as Asbestos Field Sampling Technician on assigned site investigation, remediation, and decommissioning/demolition environmental construction projects
Implement site-specific Health & Safety Plans
Ensure appropriate PPE is available and properly used
Collect asbestos samples in accordance with regulatory guidelines and industry best practices
Manage sample collection and documentation processes
Assist with development of sampling plans, reporting, and review
Verify communication systems are in place and functioning
Monitor conformance with safety and emergency procedures
Conduct daily safety briefings with field teams
Oversee maintenance of safety equipment and execute decontamination procedures
Monitor site conditions for asbestos clearance sampling
Exercise stop-work authority when imminent safety hazards arise and resume work upon proper authorization
Conduct behavior-based safety observations and coordinate Event Communication System activity
Collect and evaluate safety observations
Maintain accurate project and compliance records
Support work across decommissioning, demolition, production safety, construction safety, air compliance, and contaminated site investigation
Complete and maintain all required training
