ERM is seeking a committed and knowledgeable Consultant, Asbestos Specialist to join our team in Irvine, CA. This role combines fieldwork with advisory work, focusing on asbestos sampling, air compliance, remediation oversight, and safety program development across complex projects.

You'll collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant outcomes, travel within southern California, and grow within a safety-first consulting culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors or Degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in asbestos-related projects specifically to industrial sites, large demolition projects, construction safety, air compliance and contaminated site investigation.
  • California DOSH CAC or CSST certification, current.
  • CDPH Lead Sampling Technician or Lead Inspector/Assessor, current.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to cross train in additional health and safety/industrial hygiene work
  • Ability to travel within southern and central California areas
  • Driver's License required for travel to client locations
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Asbestos Field Sampling Technician on site investigations, remediation and decommissioning projects and implement site-specific Health & Safety Plans
  • Ensure PPE availability and proper use, including maintenance and sanitation
  • Collect asbestos samples in accordance with regulatory guidelines
  • Manage sample collection and documentation processes
  • Assist with development of sampling plans, reporting, and review
  • Verify communication systems are in place and functioning
  • Monitor conformance with safety and emergency procedures
  • Conduct daily safety briefings with field teams
  • Oversee maintenance of safety equipment and decontamination procedures
  • Monitor site conditions for asbestos clearance sampling
  • Exercise stop-work authority when imminent safety hazards arise
  • Conduct behavior-based safety observations and coordinate Event Communication System activity
  • Collect and evaluate safety observations
  • Maintain accurate project and compliance records
  • Support related consulting fields including decommissioning, demolition, production safety, construction safety, air compliance, and contaminated site investigation

What You'll Bring

Required:

Bachelors or Degree in Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.


2+ years of experience in asbestos-related projects specifically to industrial sites, large demolition projects, construction safety, air compliance and contaminated site investigation.


California Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) Certified Asbestos Consultant (CAC) or Certified Site Surveillance (CSST) Certification, current.


California Department of Public Health (CDPH) – Certified Lead Sampling Technician or Certified Lead Inspector / Assessor, current.


Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Willingness to be cross trained in additional health and safety/industrial hygiene work


Ability to travel within the southern and central California areas.


Driver's License Required: This position requires a valid driver's license and/or the ability to operate a company vehicle due to the nature of job duties, which include frequent travel to various client locations across a large geographical area


This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship


Preferred:

40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training


8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Supervisor certification


CPR/First Aid certification


Confined space and excavation awareness training


Emergency preparedness training


Hazard recognition and job hazard analysis experience


Incident investigation and root cause analysis experience


Key Responsibilities

Serve as Asbestos Field Sampling Technician on assigned site investigation, remediation, and decommissioning/decontamination/demolition environmental construction projects and implement site-specific Health & Safety Plans


Ensure appropriate level of PPE is available and properly used, including maintenance and sanitation


Collect asbestos samples in accordance with regulatory guidelines and industry best practices


Manage sample collection and documentation processes


Assist with development of sampling plans, reporting, and review


Verify communication systems are in place and functioning


Monitor conformance with safety and emergency procedures


Conduct daily safety briefings with field teams

Conduct behavior-based safety observations and coordinate Event Communication System activity

Maintain accurate project and compliance records


Support work across related consulting fields including decommissioning, demolition, production safety, construction safety, air compliance, and contaminated site investigation


Complete and maintain all required training

For the Consultant, Asbestos Specialist position, the anticipated annual base pay is $77,800 –$96,414 ( USD) . Actual pay will depend on factors such as education, experience, skills, location, performance, and business needs. In some cases, pay may fall outside this range. This role may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are not bonus eligible).
