Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Cleans water treatment basins, tunnels, and conditioners.
- Operates various valves and sewer gates for flood protection, shuts off water mains, basin cleaning, and draining.
- Performs concrete renovations: breaking out, cleaning out, prepping sites, and assisting with new installations.
- Conducts asphalt repairs and general repairs to roads, including replacements due to construction.
- Collaborates with government departments and agencies; performs city job functions.
- Installs and repairs water mains.
- Hand digs trenches for water, chemical, electrical, storm, and sewer lines around obstacles and utility crossings.
- Helps erect, repair, and maintain chain link fencing and barriers around the plant perimeter and reservoirs.
- Cleans out sewers, manholes, and street drains within the plant grounds.
- Operates motor vehicles including forklifts, pickups, and dump trucks.
- Operates grounds maintenance equipment and tractors.
- Performs custodial maintenance in service buildings and garage areas.
- Picks up parts, supplies, and materials necessary for plant operations.
- Mixes concrete for repairs, fabricated lids, curbs, and pipe supports.
- Acts as lead person when assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Use: Ability to operate and perform complex adjustments on hand and power tools, threading/tapping equipment, wrenches, forklifts, jackhammers, loaders, backhoes, trucks, and related materials.
- Verbal Aptitude: Ability to utilize various reference and descriptive data such as safety regulations and work orders.
- Mathematical Aptitude: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations, calculate percentages and decimals.
- Skill in using engine-driven pumps, power saws, jackhammers, air compressors, and related construction equipment.
