Job summary

Spectrum is hiring a Construction Technician to build and maintain our network infrastructure. You will support construction projects, handle cables and equipment, and help ensure reliable connectivity for communities.

You’ll work outdoors in varied conditions and travel as needed. Required is a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus the ability to climb poles, operate ladders, and perform documentation accurately.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Follow safety requirements and standards across construction projects.
• Move, secure, load and unload cable equipment, tools and materials.
• Dig and restore holes and trenches; bury conduit and cables for network construction.
• Pull lasher, strand and cable between poles for aerial networks.
• Perform traffic control and flagging to ensure safe worksites.
• Operate and maintain crew vehicles.

How You’ll Make an Impact

• Understand and follow safety requirements and standards while supporting various construction projects
• Move, secure, load and unload cable equipment, tools and materials
• Dig and restore holes and trenches, bury conduit and cables to support network construction
• Pull lasher, strand and cable between poles to build aerial network infrastructure
• Perform traffic control and flagging to ensure safe worksites
• Operate and maintain crew vehicles

Working Conditions

• Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night, including in poorly ventilated areas
• Stand 50-70% of the time, carry and operate extension ladders, and climb poles as required
• Travel weekly with overnight stays as business needs dictate
• Work overtime, weekends or second shifts and participate in on-call rotation as needed

What You’ll Bring to Spectrum

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience

Skills

• Close and peripheral vision with ability to adjust focus and differentiate wire sizes and colors
• Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladders up to 28 feet and 75 pounds as needed
• Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks and climbing belt with a 350-pound weight limit as needed
• Ability to travel between territories and facilities in inclement weather using a company vehicle
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Familiarity with computer operating systems and software applications
• Ability to complete documentation accurately

Preferred Qualifications

Skills

• Knowledge of basic electronic testing equipment such as ohm meters

Licenses

• Ability to obtain all necessary state licenses for installing or servicing security services as needed
• CDL or ability to obtain CDL

The base pay for this position generally is between $20.00 and $33.85. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
