Job summary

The City of Colorado Springs is seeking an Analyst I in the Sales Tax Office to support financial reviews, reconciliations, and data reporting. You will use Excel, SQL, and other tools to analyze invoices, project costs, tax payments, refunds, and exemptions, and you will prepare timely reports for management.

Responsibilities include month-end validation, reviewing amended returns and adjustments, and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study.
• One year of full-time, professional experience in a related field.
• Desirable qualifications include experience reviewing construction-related financial records, accounting/finance/reporting, and Excel proficiency.
• Experience with SQL, database queries, or related reporting tools is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct construction-related financial reviews by analyzing invoices, contracts, project costs, tax payments, refunds, exemptions, and supporting documentation.
• Gather, organize, validate, and reconcile financial and tax data from databases, systems, spreadsheets, and taxpayer records.
• Prepare and analyze recurring and ad hoc financial, statistical, and operational reports to identify trends, variances, and anomalies.
• Support month-end financial reporting by validating information and preparing supporting schedules and variance explanations.
• Review amended returns, refund requests, account adjustments, and supporting documentation for accuracy and compliance.
• Perform data-integrity and QA reviews and support testing and validation of system reports and changes.
• Maintain organized workpapers and respond to routine data requests; suggest improvements to reporting and processes.
• Other duties as assigned.
