Staab Construction Corporation is seeking a Construction Survey and Layout Specialist to support wastewater treatment, industrial, mechanical, and heavy civil projects. The role involves field layout, surveying data management, and creating models and point files with precise field measurements.

The ideal candidate will work independently in the field using GPS and robotic total stations, interpret construction plans, and coordinate with project teams to ensure accurate and efficient work.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, Engineering Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in construction layout, surveying, GPS, or related area.
• Experience using GPS equipment, robotic total stations, laser levels, and data collectors.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and survey information.
• Strong understanding of grades, elevations, measurements, and construction math.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and learn new equipment and processes.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to travel to project sites in Wisconsin and surrounding states.

Responsibilities

• Perform construction layout using GPS, robotic total stations, levels, and other survey equipment.
• Establish and verify project control points, benchmarks, elevations, and field measurements.
• Review plans, specifications, construction drawings, and survey information to determine layout requirements.
• Translate design information into accurate field layout.
• Build and maintain models, point files, and survey coordinate files.
• Download, manage, and maintain project survey data.
• Assist with machine-control setup and GPS model implementation.
• Maintain accurate layout documentation, field notes, survey records, and as-built measurements.
• Coordinate with project teams, engineers, field personnel, and outside surveyors to resolve layout discrepancies.
• Assist project teams with quantity calculations and field measurements.
• Coordinate layout activities with project schedules and field operations.
• Maintain and troubleshoot survey and grade-control equipment.

Position Overview

Staab Construction is looking for a Construction Survey and Layout Specialist to support wastewater treatment, industrial, mechanical, and heavy civil construction projects. This position performs construction layout, manages survey data, builds models and point files, and maintains accurate field measurements throughout each phase of construction.

The right person will be comfortable working independently in the field, using GPS and robotic total station equipment, interpreting construction plans, and coordinating with project teams to ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.

What We’re Looking For

• Associate degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, Engineering Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• At least three years of experience in construction layout, surveying, GPS, or a related area.
• Experience using GPS equipment, robotic total stations, laser levels, and data collectors.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, construction drawings, and survey information.
• Strong understanding of grades, elevations, measurements, and construction math.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and teach yourself new equipment, software, and processes.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to travel to project sites throughout Wisconsin and surrounding states.

Preferred Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.
• Experience with wastewater treatment, underground utility, earthwork, industrial, or mechanical construction projects.
• Experience using Trimble, Topcon, Leica, Carlson, Ag Tech, or similar survey systems.
• Experience with machine-control systems and GPS modeling.

Physical Requirements

This position requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions and traveling across uneven terrain and active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, work from ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds. The position may also require operating heavy equipment to calibrate or troubleshoot survey and grade-control systems.
