Job summary

The Improve Group (IG) Construction Superintendent leads on-site execution of diverse projects, including modular construction products and DoD applications. You will implement project plans, coordinate internal and external teams, and provide ongoing status updates to Project Managers and leadership.

Based in San Antonio, the role requires flexible schedules, including weekends or overnight shifts, and travel to project sites as needed. Prior DoD or military experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • 3 years of commercial construction experience required, 5+ preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in construction; 2+ years as Superintendent required
  • Ability to follow project schedules and update PM/Operations Leader on roadblocks
  • Ability to drive projects and teams forward in uncertain conditions
  • Travel to job sites for extended periods based on project need
  • Experience in secure government environments is preferred
  • Military experience preferred

Construction Superintendent – Job Description

The Improve Group (IG) Construction Superintendent drives the successful implementation, and support of a wide variety of construction projects, many of which utilize state-of-the-art modular construction products and customized storage solutions for Military and DOD applications. The Construction Superintendent executes comprehensive project plans developed by IG Project Managers, to track and drive the efforts of all teams involved (internal and external partners) to project completion while providing ongoing clarity to all stakeholders (Project Manager, Leadership & the customer) regarding the status of their assigned project.

This role involves continuous site operational support, thus 100% of time worked is to be based wherever the assigned construction project is located. Based upon current project load and pipeline, this role must be located in San Antonio.

Project duration and location will range based upon project. Project assignment lengths will be based on project scope and need. Work schedules will fluctuate based upon project need. This role may consist of weekends and overnight shifts.

As a Construction Superintendent for Improve Group it is crucial to be strategic, resourceful, and excited by the opportunity to problem solve in the field.

Key Responsibilities
o Participate in necessary pre-construction meetings:
  • Informational meetings with Project Managers.
  • Site-visit and kickoff meeting with key stakeholders (as applicable).
o Site Support:
  • Coordinate and conduct regular travel to project sites for ongoing project support, as the complexity of each project requires. Prepare necessary reports related to such visits.
  • Responsible for coordination and ensuring proper quality of service/product and timely completion of all vendors and subcontractors.
  • Prioritize, enforce, and document safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both internal and external personnel at the construction site.
  • Oversee the job closeout process, including punch list items.
  • Document and track potential changes to scope, conditions, or direction from inspector/client. Communicate these items to Project Manager on project.
o Logistics Management:
  • Communicate with Project Managers in terms of product orders, deliveries, and related logistics.
  • Communicate relevant deliveries received to Project Managers, whom then incorporate critical path items into Gantt schedules.
o Project/Strategic Management:
  • Meticulously track the status of every project.
  • Strategically guide projects to completion in conjunction.
  • Communicate with Project Managers to ensure Gantt schedules for each project are maintained on a weekly basis to ensure timely delivery of scope.
  • Coordinate daily check-ins and weekly status meetings with an on-site supervisor and/or implementation teams.
  • Participate in weekly status meetings with internal Project Manager and Operations Leader, to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Prepare weekly status reports for Project Manager and Operations Leader.
  • Respond to any challenges and changes that arise.
o Closeout successfully completed projects:
  • Coordinate with the Project Manager/Operations Leader, to ensure they have all necessary reports, photographs, etc. in order to prepare and execute project closeout packages.
Required Skills/Experience:
  • 3 years experience of commercial construction experience required, 5+ years preferred
  • If holding a Bachelors’ degree in construction; 2+ year experience as a Superintendent is required
  • Ability to follow project schedules and update PM/Operations Leader, on any roadblocks or updates to the schedule.
  • Ability to drive projects and project teams forward even when conditions are uncertain.
  • Ability to adapt to managing projects that range beyond the traditional construction scope.
  • Ability to travel to job sites for extended (Duration ranges based upon project need) to ensure project progresses smoothly and on schedule.
  • Experience working in and designing for secure government environments is preferred.
  • Prior Military experience preferred.
  • Must be proficient with MS Suite applications including Outlook, Teams Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Dynamics.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, techniques, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with others/function as part of a team and maintain good working relationships within other IG departments in a variety of time zones.
  • Strong business communication acumen (written and verbal).
  • Clean driving record with proof of insurance and valid driver’s license.
  • Prior security clearance with DOD, (Secret or top Secret) is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to gain access to DoD facility (required).

Compensation Structure:
  • Competitive Base Salary ($65,000-$80,000)
  • Performance based incentive pay and participation in the employee company bonus (annual)
