Job description

Superintendent

About Florida Palm Construction

Florida Palm Construction (FPC) is a growing construction company based in South Florida. Since 2014, we have delivered projects ranging from $50,000 to $10 million across the Commercial, Higher Education, Government, and Specialty Residential sectors.

The Role

We are hiring a Superintendent to run our projects in the field from start to finish. The Superintendent is responsible for their job sites: the schedule, the subcontractors, quality, safety, and inspections. They work directly with the Project Manager, the Subcontractors, and our clients, and you are the person everyone on site answers to.

Your focus is the schedule, safety, subcontractor management, and quality control. At FPC, the schedule drives our projects and the Superintendent is responsible for that. The Superintendent keeps every trade moving, every site safe, and every scope built to code, and then document it all in our site management software.

Our Flywheel

Everything we do runs on our Flywheel:

  • We attract and retain top talent aligned with our core values and make sure they feel acknowledged and appreciated.
  • We build trust with our clients and pursue Great Projects.
  • We make the client part of our team and deliver our product well.
  • We produce profit by staying on budget and on schedule.
  • We invest in developing our people to keep expanding our vision as a company.
Core Values

These are the behaviors required to succeed in this role:

  1. Do What You Say You're Going to Do. Keep the timelines and commitments you make to your team, yourself, and the client. If you can't, communicate why.
  2. Grow Thyself. Keep learning, bring back what you learn, and help others grow with you.
  3. Mindset Matters. Where your focus goes, your energy flows. Turn a tough conversation into a solution.
  4. Play as a Team, but Lead the Client. Run meetings that pull input from everyone. With clients, stay in the driver's seat with clear next steps.
  5. Get Shit Done, but Communicate. Know your outcomes, build a plan to hit them, and know at all times whether you are meeting your commitments.
What You Own
Schedule and Billing
  • Own the project schedule from start to close-out. Drive it with subcontractors every week and confirm next week's work with each trade.
  • The schedule determines billing. Know which scopes must be complete each month to hit billing and cash flow targets, and push the work to get there.
  • Give the PM accurate percent complete by scope and lead pencil walk-throughs. Only completed, quality work gets billed.
  • Update the schedule in PlanRadar and report status at Monday team meetings.
  • Escalate delays, change orders, and expedited scopes early so billing stays on track.
  • Confirm long-lead items are ordered with delivery dates on the schedule.
  • Review the labor budget bi-weekly with the PM.
Safety
  • Run a safe job site every day. Enforce OSHA regulations, PPE, and proper safety tools.
  • Lead weekly toolbox talks with subcontractors.
  • Confirm every subcontractor has proper credentials before they work, and record it in PlanRadar daily logs.
  • Enforce FPC job site rules: no unauthorized personnel, all visitors check in with you, no drugs or alcohol, materials stored and secured, and sites kept clean daily.
  • Post site rules, banners, and permit cards at project start.
Subcontractor Management
  • Manage every subcontractor and vendor coming on and off site.
  • Lead the Subcontractor Pre-Con meeting: review scopes, set expectations, and go over site rules.
  • Tell subcontractors when their scope starts and when it must be complete, and hold them to it.
  • Confirm subcontractor materials are ordered in time to meet the schedule.
  • Manage subcontractor tasks and field RFIs in PlanRadar.
  • Approve subcontractor work weekly and confirm the work being billed is complete.
Quality Control
  • Make sure all work is built to code and to plans and specifications.
  • Review plans, shop drawings, and cut sheets, and build the Required On Job (ROJ) list before work starts.
  • Own all city and county inspections: schedule them, prepare the site, pass them, and report inspector comments to the team.
  • Lead the Completion of Rough meeting with the PM and verify layouts before close-up.
  • Pass final inspections, close the permit, and run both the FPC and client punch lists to completion.
Communication and Documentation
  • Present your project execution plan to the VP of Operations and PM at hand-off.
  • Enter daily logs, upload job site photos, and keep current plans in PlanRadar.
  • Update the PM daily, elevate issues the same day, and send contract changes by email.
  • Answer emails and client or subcontractor calls within 1 business day.
  • Attend bi-weekly OAC/OC meetings and all milestone meetings.
How You Will Be Measured
  • Projects meet or beat the schedule and milestones.
  • Scheduled scopes are complete each month so billing targets are hit.
  • Job sites stay safe, clean, and OSHA compliant every day.
  • Subcontractors are coordinated to meet or beat the schedule.
  • All work passes quality control and inspections: built to code and to plans.
  • Schedule, Project Pillars, and daily logs are current in PlanRadar.
  • Project concerns are escalated to the PM and team daily.
  • Emails and client or subcontractor calls are answered within 1 business day.
  • You attend monthly superintendent meetings and trainings.
Work Environment
  • 100% field-based at active construction job sites, indoors and outdoors.
  • Walking, standing, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Daily work with subcontractors, inspectors, clients, and the project team.
  • Travel between job sites as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience running commercial or government construction projects in the field.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and OSHA requirements.
  • Able to read and interpret plans, shop drawings, and specifications.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, schedules, and inspections.
  • Comfortable with field management software. PlanRadar experience is a plus.
  • Clear, direct written and verbal communication in English.
  • Organized, accountable, and solution-focused under pressure.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field preferred.
Compensation and Schedule
  • Salary: $60,000 to $75,000, based on experience.
  • Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
  • Ongoing training and a clear path for growth and leadership within the company.

This is more than a job. It's a chance to grow with a company that's building something lasting.
