Sterling Search Partners is assisting a Birmingham client in their search for a Staff Accountant. This role maintains accurate financial records for construction projects and supports with job cost accounting, accounts payable, billing, payroll support, and financial reporting in compliance with GAAP and company policies.

The position emphasizes processing payables, preparing billings, reconciling accounts, and assisting with month-end close and audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 1-3 years accounting experience; construction industry preferred.
• Understanding of job cost accounting principles.
• Experience with construction ERP software (CMiC, Viewpoint Vista, Foundation, Sage 100 Contractor, Sage Intacct Construction or Procore Financials) preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and basic formulas.

Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable invoices with proper job and cost code coding.
• Prepare customer billings including progress and time & material invoices.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and GL accounts.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Record journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
• Track and analyze job costs, budgets, and project profitability.
• Review subcontractor invoices, lien waivers, and supporting docs.
• Assist with payroll processing and labor cost allocations.
• Prepare sales tax reports and regulatory filings.
