Job summary

Gridco in Birmingham, AL seeks a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. You will own core month-end close, GL accuracy, and reconciliations while gaining hands-on exposure to job cost and WIP in a construction/project environment.

You29ll work directly with the Accounting Manager and Controller, supporting AP, Payroll, AR, and reporting, with opportunities to develop into more senior roles as Gridco scales.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or related field.
• 305 years accounting experience (public accounting or industry); construction, utility, or other project-based industry experience a plus.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Sage, SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics) preferred.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• General ledger & journal entries — Prepare and post journal entries, maintain schedules and keep chart of accounts accurate.
• Month-end close support — Assist with monthly close checklist, accruals, and reconciliations for a clean close package.
• Bank & balance sheet reconciliations — Reconcile bank and credit card statements and resolve discrepancies.
• Job cost & WIP support — Review job cost coding and update monthly WIP schedule with Project Managers.
• Fixed assets — Maintain fixed asset ledger, record additions/disposals, calculate depreciation.
• AP & payroll coordination — Ensure accurate GL coding and timely posting for AP and payroll.
• AR support — Assist with customer invoicing, cash application, and AR aging follow-up.
• Reporting — Prepare schedules for monthly financial reporting and ad hoc analyses.
• Audit support — Gather documentation for internal/external audits.
• Process improvement — Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes.
