Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and skilled trades experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the construction or building trades.
• Current licensure, certification, or journeyman level credential in at least one skilled trade.
• Ability to complete NCCER Instructor, Proctor, and Skills Assessment Courses.
• Prior teaching, training, coaching, or workforce development experience preferred.

To provide technical and employability skills instruction to participants who are enrolled in the construction skilled trades training program at Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. This program provides participants with sought after skills identified by labor providers in the local workforce. While the Construction Skilled Trades Instructor need not be adept in all areas of training, responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the construction program has required tools and equipment, facilitating curriculum to a diverse group of learners, case management and record keeping. Instructional focus includes teaching the NCCER CORE and OSHA 10 construction curriculums which include communication skills, introduction to construction drawings, OSHA safety regulations, construction math, understanding of measurement tools, operation of hand/power tools, basic rigging, material handling, and essential skills pertinent to the construction field. This position requires working knowledge of building trades with an emphasis on construction, electrical, and plumbing. This position reports to the CTE Program Manager who evaluates performance annually.

Essential Job Functions

• Acquire and maintain a thorough knowledge of the NCCER CORE and OSHA 10 Construction curriculums that are being provided.
• Ensure curriculum is consistently updated as credential requirements change.
• Work with co instructor and Program Manager to organize classes and determine daily training priorities.
• Facilitate NCCER CORE and OSHA 10 curriculums to a diverse group of learners.
• Integrateemployer expectations into daily instruction.
• Network with area employers to hire graduates.
• Serve as a champion for people with economic disadvantages and justice involved.
• Work closely with team members to identify student struggles and ensure they are connected to resources.
• Provide necessary documentation to communicate students’ job readiness status.
• Ensures safety of students during on site and off site construction activities.
• Assists with facilitating session graduations.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant skilled trades experience.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the construction or building trades.
• Current licensure, certification, or journeyman level credential in at least one skilled trade.
• Ability to complete NCCER Instructor, Proctor, and Skills Assessment Courses.
• Prior teaching, training, coaching, or workforce development experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to engage, mentor, and build positive relationships with diverse learners.
• Comprehensive knowledge of residential construction practices, including the ability to instruct and demonstrate construction of sheds, tiny homes, and residential structures.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to promote a safe and effective learning environment.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
• Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and provide proof of insurance to travel to different job sites.
