Job description

Overview

The Construction Safety Technician supports HWP’s safety program by promoting a safe and healthy work environment across multiple construction projects. This role assists with field safety oversight, inspections, training, documentation, and incident response while working closely with project teams, supervisors, and employees. The technician is expected to travel and float between job sites as needed to provide safety support and coverage.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining company safety policies, programs, and procedures across assigned construction projects.
  • Travel between multiple job sites to provide safety coverage and support as needed.
  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections, audits, and observations to identify hazardous conditions and unsafe behaviors.
  • Work with field leadership and crews to correct hazards and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Assist with new‑hire orientations, toolbox talks, safety meetings, and ongoing employee training.
  • Maintain and update inspection records, incident documentation, and other related data in company tracking systems.
  • Support incident, injury, vehicle, equipment, and near‑miss investigations, including gathering facts, documentation, and follow‑up actions.
  • Monitor compliance with company rules, client requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Maintain required safety documentation, inspection records, training records, and related reports.
  • Assist with PPE compliance, hazard communication, fall protection, excavation safety, equipment safety, and other construction safety requirements.
  • Help ensure emergency equipment, first aid supplies, and safety materials are available and properly maintained at project sites.
  • Support a proactive safety culture by encouraging hazard identification, near‑miss reporting, and employee engagement.
  • Participate in periodic trend reviews and help identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of the company’s safety and operational objectives.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in construction, field operations, safety, or a related role preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction safety principles and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and help implement practical corrective actions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization. Bilingual preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and the ability to complete electronic forms, reports, and documentation.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism when addressing incidents or employee concerns.
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred. Instructor, preferred.
  • OSHA 10‑hour construction certification required; OSHA‑30 preferred; other safety credentials preferred.
  • Additional Requirements:
    • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high‑security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
    • Ability and willingness to travel locally and regionally between project sites and float where needed to support active work.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs, climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
    • If applicable, indicate union affiliation in your application.
    • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job‑site safety and labor requirements.
