Job summary

ERM is seeking a Principal Technical Consultant, Construction Safety to guide EHS strategy across large capital projects in the US. You will lead program development, governance, and contractor oversight from design through startup, ensuring compliance and continuous safety improvement.

Role emphasizes Safety-by-Design, risk-based decision making, and executive-level recommendations, with travel to project sites as needed. Base pay ranges shown and bonus eligibility may apply.

Qualifications

• Experience developing and implementing EHS management systems for large capital projects.
• Ability to influence executive stakeholders with strategic recommendations.
• Bachelor’s degree in safety, occupational health and safety, engineering, construction mgmt, or related field or equivalent.
• 6–8+ years of capital project EHS experience including owner-side safety support.
• Experience with Safety in Design, PHA/PSM risk reviews, and EHS governance processes.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, LOTO, permits, emergency response, and high-risk controls.
• Experience reviewing contractor JHAs, pre-task plans, permits, lift plans, energy isolation plans.
• Strong field presence and ability to influence contractors and client EHS personnel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to manage multiple priorities and travel.
• Preferred certifications: CHST, ASP, CSP, OSHA 30; experience in pharma/high-tech industries.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate program effectiveness and identify gaps across project phases.
• Lead safety governance and risk reviews with stakeholders.
• Develop scalable EHS frameworks aligned with project goals.
• Advise on Safety-by-Design and construction safety governance.
• Conduct field observations and audits to verify controls.
• Support commissioning, startup, and turnover readiness.
