Job summary

Turner Construction Co. is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Associate to support enforcement of safety policies on Detroit construction projects. You will assist in training, reviewing subcontractor safety programs, and administering drug screening in alignment with project requirements.

The role requires a degree in safety-related field and at least 1 year of experience, with strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Some travel may be required as projects progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or related field with at least 1 year of construction safety experience.
• Basic knowledge of safety/environmental principles and techniques.
• Familiar with Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations.
• Familiar with general construction operations.
• Ability to identify safety-related exposures and propose corrective actions.
• Demonstrates leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to take direction and follow through with commitments.
• Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
• Analytical thinking, good judgment, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work in a non-structured environment and reprioritize with management direction.
• Proficient computer and data entry skills, Microsoft Office suite.
• Limited travel may be required; access to reliable transportation required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with enforcement and adherence of EH&S policies and risk management on construction projects.
• Assist with training safe work practices and implementing safety programs for project teams.
• Review subcontractor safety programs for compliance with regulations and contract requirements.
• Assist with reviewing subcontractors' training per OSHA standards.
• Promote safe work practices and conditions in line with laws and contractual requirements.
• Administer and record drug screening programs (pre-employment, post-accident, random).
• Coordinate preconstruction meetings with supervisors.
• Conduct worker orientations and record participation.
• Gather Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for contractors.
• Maintain safety records (PTPs, JHAs, training, OSHA 300, MSDS, chemical inventory).
• Conduct safety meetings and issue minutes as directed.
• Maintain log of subcontractor toolbox safety meetings and report to supervisor.
• Conduct project site safety audits and inspections; issue violation reports for corrective action.
• Identify and report safety violations; focus on imminent danger situations.
• Other activities, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
