HNTB Corporation in Rocky Hill, CT is seeking a Construction Representative to support field and office activities during construction. You will work with the project team, maintain drawings and specifications, coordinate testing, and prepare reports.

Change orders will be prepared and tracked, with an emphasis on accurate documentation and on-site verification. Preferred CTDOT/Metro-North project experience, plus strong MS Office and document control skills to ensure quality and schedule

Qualifications

  • Associates degree and 6+ years experience, or Bachelor's in Construction Management and 4+ years experience.
  • Preferred CTDOT/Metro-North project experience including inspection of highway, drainage, bridge, rail, and OCS.
  • Strong MS Office skills and document control responsibilities require accuracy and organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare change orders documentation, review scope, schedule and cost.
  • Inspect and oversee field tasks to ensure conformance with plans and specs.
  • Maintain as-constructed drawings and monitor progress against schedule.
  • Coordinate testing, quality control inspections, and report construction progress.
  • Mentor staff and assist Resident Engineer with issue resolution.

This opportunity entails being responsible for providing construction site field and office support and resources during construction phases of projects. The Construction Rep applies construction engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assignments and assist the Resident Engineer in partnership with the project team. This position maintains project data, including drawings and specifications, coordinates testing and quality control inspections and prepares reports on construction progress. Preferred experience with CTDOT and/or Metro-North Railroad projects which may include inspection of highway, drainage, bridge, rail, track, Overhead Contact System (OCS) and/or other inspections associated with various transportation projects.**What You'll Do:*** Performs office management engineer work when needed including but not limited to; prepares documentation for change orders, reviews change order scope of work, schedule and cost, processes and maintains tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables. Assists in constructability reviews.* Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Reads, interprets, and confirms compliance with applicable contract documents.* Performs or oversees on-site material testing. Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for the tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.* Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications and identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.* Reviews contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.* Responsible for maintaining as-constructed drawings and monitors contractors progress to analyze against progress schedule.* Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.* Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research. Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.* Mentors and trains staff.* Performs other duties as assigned.**What You'll Need:*** Associates degree in relevant field and 6 years relevant experience, or* Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field and 4 years relevant experience.**What You'll Bring:*** Preferred experience with CTDOT and/or Metro-North Railroad projects which may include inspection of highway, drainage, bridge, rail, track, Overhead Contact System (OCS) and/or other inspections associated with various transportation projects.* Identifies and resolves issues with basic change conditions with oversight from the project engineer.* Develops working relationships with agency staff and stakeholders.* Operates relevant testing equipment as needed for the project.* Understands Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills at an advanced level.* Understands document control for the project (i.e., materials documentation of RFI, contractor payment, contractor employment records) at an advanced level with oversight from more experienced staff. **What We Prefer:*** Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT), Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Level 1-A and 1-B, or American Concrete Institute (ACI) Certifications.* OSHA 30 certified preferred.* Agency safety training certified preferred.* Trained in digital construction management software such as COMPASS, AASHTOWare or similar preferred**Additional Information**Click here for benefits information: HNTB Total RewardsClick here to learn more about Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/VeteranVisa sponsorship is not available for this position.#RV.Locations:Rocky Hill, CT (Hartford).................The approximate pay range for Connecticut is $91,710.82 - $143,445.15. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
