Job summary

Johns Hopkins Health System is seeking a Project Manager to oversee construction projects across Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and satellite locations. Responsibilities include initiating, designing, budgeting, constructing, and closing projects, with emphasis on safety, compliance, and timely delivery.

Qualifications

  • Experience in managing construction projects from initiation through closeout.
  • Ability to collaborate with architecture/planning, finance, engineering, and clinical teams.
  • Certifications such as PMP, CCM, CHC, LEED AP, RA, P.E. or similar preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage renovations, tenant fit-out, and capital renewal projects up to $1M+ and beyond for select programs.
  • Coordinate with partner departments to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Provide timely updates on project status, budget, and schedule to clients and team members.
  • May supervise and mentor junior staff and interns on assigned projects.

Position Summary
  • Project Managers are responsible for the construction of additions, alterations, and renovations at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, and/or various satellite ambulatory locations that require project management support.
  • The ideal candidate should possess proficiency delivering all aspects of construction projects including project initiation, design, budget, construction, safety/compliance, and closeout.
  • Project Managers may also be assigned to support aspects of larger projects by Senior Project Managers and/or Project Executives as needed.
  • Beyond the required technical skills for this position, Project Managers must also possess effective communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills with the ability to build positive working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Essential Duties, Functions, And Responsibilities
  • Manages renovation, tenant fit-out, and capital renewal projects ranging in cost up to, and at times exceeding $1M and may be higher for certain Projects. Responsibilities often include tight timelines, focused programs, difficult logistics, and fixed budgets.
  • Works cohesively with partner departments such as architecture/planning, finance, engineering/operations, clinical engineering, and others on a regular basis to deliver projects on time, at or below budget and meet the project’s stated goals.
  • Provides exemplary customer service by providing timely and accurate updates to internal team members and the client representative regarding project status, budget, and schedule.
Additional Responsibilities Applicable To Project Manager II
  • Works independently on projects with higher risk and complexity, with guidance and oversight of more senior project managers. When directed, supervises and oversees the work of other team staff on specific projects
  • Serves as departmental representative (alone or with departmental colleagues) for committees of affiliates when directed
  • Serves as a mentor to the departmental interns as a first step in leadership development
  • Interacts under the guidance of more senior project managers with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s) who permit, inspect and approve project work to resolve discrepancies.
Additional Responsibilities Applicable To Project Manager III
  • Works independently on projects with higher risk and complexity provides guidance and oversight to junior staff and outside consultants.
  • Routinely supervises and oversees the work of other team staff on specific projects, providing guidance, leadership and support
  • Participates in development of standard work practices as part of internal committees
  • Continues work as mentor of departmental interns and will serve as a guide to PM’s who are first time mentors (PM II’s) as a continuation of leadership development
  • Provides direction and oversight to the work of third-party project manager firms as directed.
  • Interacts Independently with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ’s) who permit, inspect and approve project work to resolve discrepancies.
Education
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree as outlined below in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field is preferred.
  • Candidates who possess equivalent advanced technical knowledge via an associate degree, relevant professional certifications, training in trades programs, vocational or technical school, partially completed coursework at a college/university, or apprenticeship sponsor organization will be considered.
Work Experience
  • Experience is to be in project management in a comparable position leading or supporting the delivery of construction projects.
  • Experience requirements may be flexible if a candidate holds a master’s degree and/or certifications or licenses such as a Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC), LEED AP, Registered Architect (RA), Professional Engineer (P.E.), or other relevant professional certification or license.
Project Manager III
  • No Degree: 9 yrs. Engineering/Design/Construction
  • Associate’s Degree: 7 yrs. Engineering/Design/Construction
  • Bachelor’s Degree: 6 yrs. Engineering/Design/Construction

Salary Range: Minimum $37.60/visit - Maximum $62.08/visit. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
